Why message if you don't want a conversation?

I made a friend at a group pre lockdown. Only went to the group a few times, did lots if zooming during covid then dropped it gently.
One of the leaders occasionally WhatsApps me to ask how I am, they've been thinking about me I.e. "Hiya, I've been thinking about you, how are you doing?"... I reply the usual "fine thanks, you? Hooe you're all well " and then a response saying "Yes thank you" ...and that's it?!

Why bother?!

Any thoughts?

I think she is being a good group leader and letting you know that there is a place for you if you want to return.

Surely she'd say that though? I find it a little strange. Etiquette to me would be a few exchanges back and forth on any common or neutral topic ? Unless it's a poster/advert/article link that may be of interest?
