what is that smell in the lean to?

So for this past week downstairs I smelled something weird in the lean to (where a small toilet and washing machine is).

DM comes round - "what's that smell, is it drains?" me: "F knows, don't think so".

Was going to wash the floor and picked up the big red mop bucket next to the bins and a tiny wood mouse was dead in there - only culprit for this is the cat... who brings them in sometimes...

That explains the smell - rotting mouse, and in hot weather too! Shockwhat

I feel your pain. I noticed a dodgy smell at the top of the stairs for ages and then we finally discovered a dead rate in the attic. Lovely

The smell of a dead mouse is truly horrible and often hard to find the body!

@Beamur - yeah at least the cat dropped it into the bucket!

Reminds me of the time I had a repairman round. There was a terrible stink, which I assumed must have been from him, though obviously I didn’t comment.
He finished his job and left, but the smell got worse. I finally tracked it down to a dead mouse that the cat had left under an armchair by a radiator - and presumably the repairman thought the smell was me! I was mortified.

@Babdoc - years ago when I was housesitting for DPs I was in their living room and put my hand down their sofa (stepdad often dropped pound coins out of a hole in his pocket) to see what was there. Out came the skeleton of dead mouse one of their cats had brought in and dropped down there! I did scream too! Grin

Not surprised you screamed, OP! But I suppose be thankful it wasn’t still at the squishy stage of decomposition…! Grin
