Kinda regretting my eldest son's name

To cut to the chase we named him Kylo. For those not in the know it's from Star Wars. He wasn't named for any love of the character (I hadn't seen the sequels at that point) the name to me just sounded cute, like a varient of Mylo I guess and I do still like it now. To be clear I have absolutely no desire to change his name (he's 4 now), he is Kylo and doesn't like to be called Kai or any shortened version. I just worry sometimes that I've given my child a name that he'll grow to regret. What do you think?

I think it's fine. He can change it later if he really doesn't like it.

Thank you for all your responses. They've been overwhelmingly positive!

He does have a very regular middle name so could go by that in future if he wishes.

Come to think of it he's likely to have many peers with very out-there names so I guess his is rather tame in comparison to some.

Again, thank you for all your responses

I really like it! He can always use Kai/Kye when he's older if he wants to.

I’m a Star Wars costumer so have met a few Kylo’s, also dozens of Luke’s and Leia’s and even a Han.
it’s a great name!

Beckyboo123 · 10/06/2022 10:19

I love that name 😍 my son is Obi

Genesisark · 10/06/2022 10:24

I prefer Anakin, but if he has a middle name he could use it if he liked or use Kylo

vitahelp · 10/06/2022 10:44

I don't usually like unusual names but this actually sounds good. I had no idea about the star wars link either, it just sounds like a nice name.

DeusInAbsentia · 10/06/2022 10:59

I met an Anakin once. He was so proud of his name, insisting on telling us all he was “Anakin but not skywalker “ 😂
his parents were big Star Wars fans though so he absolutely embraced it all.

I know a Luke and Leia brother/sister pair.

I confess I am not a SW fan so I did not know about Kylo. But I really like it.

(And I LOVE Anakin, but even I knew that was from SW!).

It's fine. In ten years only die hard fans will even make the association. There's nothing wrong with his name.

Funny story! A friend of a friend of a friend named their child Maverick because of that reason. Top gun is still a really popular movie and with the sequel currently out I do wonder what 13 year old Maverick thinks of it!!

But OP, I understand the feeling of name regret, but its honestly fine!

Kanaloa · 10/06/2022 11:54

I actually know a little Maverick not named after Top Gun. It’s funny because he’s such a shy/reserved type of child who wouldn’t want to stand out. Like a grumpy Joy!

BluesandClues · 10/06/2022 12:51

I love it! There are worse names in the world.

Mangogogogo · 10/06/2022 14:45

I mean it’s better than bloody anakin or Obi!

i do actually like it though, it’s not a silly name if you get me!

i know a child named after a final fantasy character and I think wtf have you done?

Mangogogogo · 10/06/2022 14:45
