Which job would you choose?

Hi I have been offered two jobs in different pharmacies.
The first job is 8.30-6 Mon to Fri, no weekends or bank holidays at £9.62 an hour.
It's a quieter pharmacy with a small team.
The second job is 8.30-6 (5 days a week), every other weekend and bank holidays. Pay is £10.69 per hour. Larger pharmacy looks more busy and stressful.
I don't have children but my DH does have weekends off.
Struggling to choose between the two 😫

With job 2 would you get a day off in the week when you work the weekend (presumably just the Saturday)? Is that something you would like?

Job 1 sounds better to me.

It would be a Saturday and Sunday with days off in the week. I guess a day off in the week would be good for appointments etc.

How much do you need the money as that £1per hour will probably be quite a difference across the full year

Mainframetimechange · 09/06/2022 20:01

Do you need the money? Or is it worth having a little less money if having weekends off will offer you a better work life balance?

Floorandflooringme · 09/06/2022 20:30

Do you want job progression? If so job 2 maybe better.
What's more important/needed right now money or time with your partner? How does your relationship work are you a couple in each other's pockets or do you often spend time apart /do your own things?
Will you want dc in the near future? Job 1 would mean more childcare needed but would allow more whole family time.
I think it depends on your short to medium term needs/wants/ life plans.

Is losing bank Holidays and weekends work the extra £45 gross a week? It wouldn't be for me...

I think it depends on your lifestyle and what you’d typically do at weekends. Yes, a day off in the week can be good for appointments, hair cuts etc but if your friends are going away for the weekend, or you never get to spend time with your partner, or there’s things you’d regularly do then that’s a big sacrifice for a small amount of extra money.
