I’ll start off by answering:

No

Yes, either apricots or raisins with porridge, then a sandwich with cucumber or tomato and an apple and a banana or orange, and beans/peas/broccoli at dinner.

I've got to get up and ready for my £10 a hour job so can't read it all now. Do us working class eat less fruit and veg then?

EatSleepReplete · 06/06/2022 06:15

Yes, I usually eat 7-10 per day. Am quite restricted in what I can eat too due to migraines - no bananas, avocados, aubergine, only a tiny amount of beans, no raw onion, no citrus fruits, quite a few tropical fruits I can only tolerate in tiny portions, likewise tomatoes, olives, vinegar based dressings etc.

Lots of leafy stuff.

Actually age is the greastest predictor.
Older adults eat more 16-24 the least.
Most likely reason given for not eating 5 a day was "expense" so quite likelg to be correlated with income.

MN is MC

Yes, almost always, often more. But I am vegetarian so likely more attuned to it. I really like fruit at breakfast and salad at lunch or dinner, plus pulses and cooked veggies. I look forward to them.

Eating 5x fruit and veg can be tricky if you are not keen on either, or don't know how to/ don't really want to cook veggies so you like them. It's expensive and if no one eats it happily in the household, a waste of money and food.

Yes pretty much everyday, and if I don’t do it I feel crap & sluggish. I’m very conscious of my health though and prioritise it.

EatSleepReplete · 06/06/2022 10:00

Me too @Sammysquiz . It affects my IBS, mood, skin, & strangely my joints if I don't eat enough vegetables (I suspect the joints issue is due to carb overload though, not specifically lack of vegetables).

MissTrip82 · 06/06/2022 10:19

Yes. I’m vegetarian, I like fruit and veg, and I need to eat large quantities for my appetite but need it to be mostly veg if I don’t want to be fat.

I’m middle class now but as a working class child also easily achieved this. My parents prioritised a good diet. We had different fruit and veg - no ‘punnet of blueberries’ as a snack - but an excellent diet. Many other working class
parents do the same.

This is my dinner last night
I would guesstimate 2/3 portions
Would others agree ?
