I’ll start off by answering:

No

No, not every day. I eat more fruit when I’m working as it’s what I take to eat, so there’s no choice.

goldfinchonthelawn · 05/06/2022 15:51

yes and more. Easily.

Cereal or yoghurt with a big scoop of frozen berries and a shot glass of juice or smoothie in the morning. 2 portions.

Veg soup, crudites or a salad at lunch time - equivalent to at least 2 portions. Sometimes a piece of fruit afterwards

Then two or three (or more) veg with main meal and at least one fruit snack during the day - a banana, slice of melon or an orange. (2-5 portions)

Total 6-9 portions a day.

SunnyLobelia · 05/06/2022 15:52

I used to easily. Then eating disorders crept in and I did not.

Now I certainly do. I have a system - 2 at breakfast (bananas and something else); 2 at lunch (or more as I usually do a vegetable and bean soup or a sandwich with loads of salad vegetables in it) and 3 at dinner.

Most days I hit that quite easily now, but it has taken a while for it to become a habit.

Chaoslatte · 05/06/2022 15:55

Yes and usually more. It’s not that hard is it? A banana with breakfast, an apple and carrot sticks with lunch, broccoli and peas with dinner for example gets you there and doesn’t seem like a lot.

Beecham · 05/06/2022 16:06

No I don't. I find it hard! Typical day would look like this:

Breakfast: Granola/yoghurt (some dried fruit in this but not enough to count as a portion)
Lunch: Sandwich, crisps, apple
Dinner: Salmon, rice, broccoli
Glass of juice

So 3-4 total

Simonjt · 05/06/2022 16:06

Yes, but we’re diary free vegetarians, so there isn’t much else to eat.

Trinacham · 05/06/2022 16:08

No

Classicblunder · 05/06/2022 16:10

Yes and it is straightforward for me - piece of fruit after lunch and dinner, lunch is something like soup (2 x veg) or sandwich with carrots and cucumber with hummus (2 x veg), dinner is something like falafel, hummus and roasted veg or vegetarian curry (2 x veg)

HRHBreathMints · 05/06/2022 16:12

Yes and quite naturally. Eg breakfast will have something - avocado on toast, or fruit and yogurt. Even a bacon sarnie - I like banana in the sarnie. I reach for fruit to snack on too.

which is shocking because my diet is awful. Too much processed crap

2bazookas · 05/06/2022 16:13

We eat plenty more than five, and we're not vegetarians.

GreendaleFive · 05/06/2022 16:14

No, not normally (though, it can vary quite a lot and there are days I exceed the 'five'). Given I'm vegetarian, this sometimes shocks people. However, I'm also autistic and have quite a restricted diet. I don't like a lot of fruit or veg. that you'd typically find in vegetarian meals (can't stand onions, tomatoes, peppers, aubergine etc.).

Most of what I eat is eggs, dairy and carbs. If I went vegan (something I would like to do from a moral standpoint), I genuinely think I'd end up underweight (which has happened a couple of times in the past even while I've been eating eggs and dairy).

PurpleDaisies · 05/06/2022 16:18

Yes but we’re vegetarian.

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 05/06/2022 16:20

Yes - when I put the effort in, which I do more often than not.
When I'm putting the effort in a day will look something like:

  • homemade fruit smoothie
  • tuna nicoise salad
  • apple
  • butternut squash Thai green curry

When I'm not putting the effort in it looks more like:

  • Bran flakes with a banana
  • Cheese on toast
  • Homemade chips and fried eggs
FlyToTheSun · 05/06/2022 16:27

I eat a lot more than five, more veg than fruit. I’m vegan so it’s very easy to go over 5 a day.

meow1989 · 05/06/2022 16:40

No, maybe as low as 1 on some days Blush

However ds (nearly 4) always has, he has been known to reach 11 (fruit and veg, in case anyone mentioned sugar)

Oblomov22 · 05/06/2022 16:41

Don't think many people manage it.

Awrite · 05/06/2022 16:43

Yes. I don't eat meat so it's fairly easy.

DogsAndGin · 05/06/2022 16:45

I used to very easily. Now pregnant with zero energy and cooking is a huge chore and appetite is all over the place - worst diet I’ve had at the time I need it most 😩

RiojaRose · 05/06/2022 16:47

Yes, but mostly because I like them. It’s not really a health thing. I usually have at least two portions of chocolate as well.

MarmiteOnToast · 05/06/2022 17:06

Sometimes

mypinkslippers · 05/06/2022 17:07

Yes because we don't eat meat or dairy and cook from scratch and so most meals are made up of vegetables and grains. Then I eat lots of raw fruit and veggies throughout the day.

I actually made a point of doing it in my mid-twenties due to feeling and looking tired all the time. Now diet is the way we stay healthy and yes it includes a plant-based diet - as in it is literally based on plants.

When you base your diet on something healthy the odd pizza or bag of sweets doesn't have a negative impact on your health.

AnnaKorine · 05/06/2022 17:19

10-15 a day,m- fruit with breakfast, a big salad for lunch as different veggies with dinner. Even the (fussy) DC manage 5 a day.

TheGetaway · 05/06/2022 17:20

Oblomov22 · 05/06/2022 16:41

Don't think many people manage it.

Do you not think so?

I find that surprising but suppose lots of people don’t have a particularly healthy diet.

cushioncovers · 05/06/2022 17:22

Probably about half the week.

Nutellaspoon · 05/06/2022 17:23

No. I have plain porridge for breakfast, soup for lunch which probably has one portion, and then 2 portions with dinner. I don't snack. Tbh a lot of it is to do with cost, the DC go through a small mortgage worth of berries and other fruit and veg and so dh and I try to leave it all for them and I don't want to spend over £30 a week just on fruit.
