What would you suggest? We have been to Barcelona 3x and love love love

so looking for something similar

will be going on March and whilst happy to wear coats, like it to be mild. Barcelona was around 16-18 Celsius and it was perfect.

children 10 and 13. Great walkers, flexible and happy to do culture as genuinely enjoy but not for hours on end and I always like to throw in something “fun” that is perhaps a bit different

thanks so much

Seville

Schools2023 · 05/06/2022 14:13

Valencia

MissyCooperismyShero · 05/06/2022 14:15

Valencia is super for children. Lisbon also great. Berlin has a different vibe but also loads for children

NotThisWeekSatan · 05/06/2022 14:22

I came here to say Seville or Valencia, both excellent city breaks

Chiroptera · 05/06/2022 14:23

Rome

thefirstfortyeight · 05/06/2022 14:27

Was going to say Seville or Rome.

famagusta · 05/06/2022 14:35

Bilbao might be a little cool in March but is beautiful. Very walkable city and there is the Guggenheim to visit, a trip up Artxanda on the funicular, exploring Siete Calles and the Basque museum.

Savedbythebell1 · 05/06/2022 14:45

Lisbon, Valencia, Madrid?

famagusta · 05/06/2022 14:47

Mumsnet is just brilliant

ok Seville versus Rome

both complete unknowns to me.

thoughts? What areas to stay in?!

Malaga. Bad rep, but actually really nice with a couple of good museums and decent restaurants. Should be nice and mild in March

Lunificent · 05/06/2022 14:48

Porto in Portugal
Palma de Mallorca

famagusta · 05/06/2022 14:49

Oh Lisbon is also in the mix!

Seville or Lisbon or Rome

what a wonderful dilemma

it is mainly for the children and not me, and whilst we cross over in interests, I like to make it with a heavy focus on fun experiences

famagusta · 05/06/2022 14:49

So we enjoy cable cars, bike tours etc

If you’ve never been to Rome, go there. The Forum and other sites are stunning.

Duvetdweller · 05/06/2022 14:50

Copenhagen! Bike tours are fab, it’s very safe, Tivoli is fab. I’d live there - we all loved it

thefirstfortyeight · 05/06/2022 14:52

For Rome the area around Piazza Navona is very central.

Littlemissprosecco · 05/06/2022 14:52

Seville is quite small so good for bikes, also has horse and carriages which my kids loved

Msloverlover · 05/06/2022 14:53

Porto. Been to Valencia and Lisbon and Lisbon and both are nice but Porto is our hands down favourite.

Did not enjoy Rome at all actually. Possibly bad luck? But came across some seriously rude people.

I honestly think the Portuguese are some of the friendliest people in Europe.

weather being mild ie mid teens in March is very important to us

I’m leaning towards Seville

Valencia is compact and easy to walk around. The huge park in the old riverbed has a section with a huge Gulliver feature kids can climb up and slide down. You can hire bikes, go roller skating and skateboarding too all away from the traffic on the roads. It's in easy reach of the city centre and historic area. The beach is in easy reach of the city centre. You can take the Metro out to the north east for the Turia Natural Park where the Riverside park offers walking, horse riding, etc.

WinterDeWinter · 05/06/2022 14:57

A bit counter intuitive but we haved done and loved city breaks to Barcelona, Lisbon and Porto, and also really enjoyed Berlin. Similarly cool, walkable and village-y, arty. We loved Copenhagen as well but it was a bit more polished.

Littlemissprosecco · 05/06/2022 14:58

The royal palace and cathedral are beautiful. You’ll get the
orange blossom in spring too
