What would you suggest? We have been to Barcelona 3x and love love love

so looking for something similar

will be going on March and whilst happy to wear coats, like it to be mild. Barcelona was around 16-18 Celsius and it was perfect.

children 10 and 13. Great walkers, flexible and happy to do culture as genuinely enjoy but not for hours on end and I always like to throw in something “fun” that is perhaps a bit different

thanks so much

The weather in Seville in March should be perfect and it's a beautiful city

And you speak Spanish so seems a good choice!

Would love some thoughts on where to base ourselves in Seville? Would ideally like to book an air bnb
or an apart hotel

a pool or plunge pool would be a wonderful cherry on the top!

Ah, I was just about to suggest Verona as I've just done that with dd (14). Verona itself has plenty to see, and you can get a train to Gardaland theme park (15 min train journey) which is huge with rides to suit everyone. You can also get a bus to Lake Garda itself. Maybe next time!

Scepticalwotsits · 05/06/2022 17:32

Lisbon, Bilbao and maybe event Valletta Malta if you love the history and architecture. It’s a fantastic city

SunnyShiner · 05/06/2022 17:57

I've been to Barcelona several times and don't really like it!

Lisbon, Porto or Valencia are much nicer imo and far less pickpockets. Im not a fan of Rome either but I love Amsterdam. Might be a bit cold still in March though.

BlueTitSmilingAtMe · 05/06/2022 18:06

Hey OP, I love Seville, you'll have a great time there. It's got a mix of city living and Med sensibility so everyone is all southern european and chic at the same time. Also very friendly! We've stayed here a few times and I always recommend it to friends - it's right in the centre, overlooks a picturesque square, has a rooftop pool, just a few streets away from the cathedral etc and loads of other places to look around as well in the area, lots of nice places for dinner and tapas, very helpful and accommodating staff who will help you out with anything. I've linked you to their own page but I've always got best deals from booking.com and the like - maybe put the details into trivago? Anyway, happy holidays.

I stayed here a few years ago when we went to Seville for a family wedding- it is over the river in the Triana area. Small roof pool. Very walkable to the centre, alcazar etc.

The more well off in-laws stayed here- very central and a large pool.

Oh and they will love your kids.

First time I went to Seville mine were v young and we got a bit lost on the way back from the Plaza Espana so I went to a bus stop and and asked the driver how to get to our hotel. Literally seconds later we were surrounded by people spilling out onto the pavement arguing about the best route, chucking the kids under their chins, giving us recommendations for flamenco bars owned by their cousins, offering to walk us back to the hotel etc, no creepiness at all, just friendly people wanting us to have a nice time. I've encountered similar every time since. They take you into their arms. Some people get pissed off about it but I actually think it's quite nice.

newbiename · 05/06/2022 18:47

Seville is lovely , not as busy or big as Barcelona.

DameHelena · 05/06/2022 19:00

Seville sounds wonderful.
I actually came on to say Lisbon, but saw the thread had moved on!

famagusta · 05/06/2022 19:23

3 nights enough in Seville?

OP posts:
cptartapp · 05/06/2022 19:25

Have been to most of these and have to say I probably loved Seville the most.
Or Rome. But it was more full on.

cptartapp · 05/06/2022 19:26

We stayed three nights over New Year. Just enough.

I struggled to find accommodation in Valencia.
Lisbon and Berlin are both amazing. Not sure on Berlin weather then though.

I'd say so, yes. The Alcazar and the Cathedral are the main draws really. You could do both in a day if you were focused and timed your tickets right and included entrance to the Giralda. They are next to each other. For your other days, you can think about the Setas, or Plaza Espana, or Palacio de la Condesa de Lebrija (my favourite of the minor sites) or something similar. And you'd be able to have a night watching flamenco. Because you really should do that. Even if it's a tourist one - they know what they are doing. It's fantastic.

TheHuntingoftheSnark · 05/06/2022 19:41

Valencia or Malaga.

mindutopia · 05/06/2022 19:43

Definitely Lisbon. I wouldn’t compare Seville to Barcelona. And Rome is a bit blah. That said, after being to Barcelona many times, dd9 and I went to Venice and really enjoyed it. You just have to stay away from the usual touristy stuff, but using the water taxis to get everywhere was novel and we found some lovely local restaurants and did some non-touristy things. And was great.
