When were you last (pleasantly) amazed by something?

I just love the feeling of being surprised and delighted by something – this morning (after really struggling last night with a piano piece I've been learning) I got up and played it with ease.

The human brain is just incredible - I have no idea how it processed yesterday's practice while I was sleeping, but it did!

What was the last thing that left you feeling amazed (in a good way)?

Our street party yesterday. The amount of thought, time and effort people gave for free, to make a fantastic afternoon for others was amazing

I work as a nurse in a field where we use cameras to look at body parts. We recent got new ones and the detail is amazing, I genuinely fangirled when I saw the inside of someone in all the tiny detail 😂

Ha! @ThePontiacBandit I love that. I think it's almost a greater thrill when it's something that not everyone would be thrilled by!

Yesterday morning I potted some tiny limp tomato seedlings and left them in the greenhouse.. Came back from the allotment later and checked on them - they were upright and already looking like they had a zest for life!!

What a lovely positive thread! I go on a daily walk around my neighbourhood to get my steps in and I love it when I see stunning flowers or a tree in blossom. It changes every time even though it's often the same route. It just amazes me that with all the doom and gloom in the world, I'll suddenly see an incredible lilac tree or perfect arum lilies.

I saw a kingfisher for the first time a couple of years ago and I couldn't stop smiling for ages. It had been a long term wish of mine to see one.

Our autistic son, with whom we've all had a very hard time, has suddenly turned into a polite lad who behaves beautifully when we're out. He's always been a kind boy and good hearted, but he's struggled a great deal with social rules of behaviour and fighting with his little brother but suddenly he seems to have grasped or decided to do things differently.

Life isn't easy for him. I am so so so proud of him.

A little thing, DD 5 loves swimming and has been trying to swim non stop for a year or so. Yesterday something just clicked and now she's got it! Seeing how proud and delighted she was and watching her figure out how to coordinate was amazing and delighting.

I deep cleaned my hoover yesterday, and the difference in how well it hoovered this morning is truly astonishing.😂🙈

I've had a very exciting bank holiday...

I didn't agree with something my 18 year old son wanted to do. I felt anxious about talking to him about it and was expecting a 'disagreement'. I've just spoken to him and he said 'ok I do understand it from your perspective'. I wasn't expecting that response! - I'm really pleased and it shows his maturity.

When the plants I'd grown from seed last year, that had been chomped down to stumps by snails, came back to life after a bit of TLC (I now bring them in at night or in wet whether, and give them regular feeds). Every day I tell them how well they're doing and give their leaves a little stroke 😄

Dreams amaze me and I even love the bad ones. I've had epic detailed dreams since I was little and can often remember them. I sometimes have lucid dreams and can choose what to do while I'm dreaming.

A very trivial one but I have seen people detailing how good heated throws are - the most popular one on MN is in the region of £150. I saw a cheaper one and thought I'd try it for DH who works from home and is constantly freezing, he's a bit fussy with these things usually (won't have an electric blanket/hates heated seats in cars 🙄) so this was a bit of a gamble but my goodness it's flippin fantastic! I'd seen a suggestion to put it on the settee and that should be enough to keep you warm without a blanket on top - it absolutely does!

I was amazed by the Eurovision guy last night at the jubilee concert. Never heard of him before, Eurovision passed me by, so I wasn't expecting much but he absolutely nailed it. His voice was just awesome, LOVED his guitar solo and his enthusiasm and upbeat attitude made the whole thing come alive. What a guy. Should have been him singing with Queen.

These are putting such a smile on my face 😄

From @Ijsbear 's brilliant-sounding son to @PushingAnElephantUpTheStairs 's Hoover – what a range of examples, and all just blimmin' lovely.

Sam Ryder's performance last night at the Party at the Palace was epic! I hadn't watched Eurovision this year either. He seems such nice person too. 😊

I heard a cuckoo on my walk today. I live in the country, I hear cuckoos a fair bit. It wasn't even the first one I've heard this year. But it's such an evocative sound each time I hear one is a wonder.

Sunnysidegold · 05/06/2022 13:58

I came out of work the other day to see a tree near the gate had just popped into full blossom. It was so beautiful, really took my breath away. It's one of those where the flowers don't last long so I'm glad I caught it at its best.

Last year I poured out a box of those mixed wildflower seeds on a wee scrap of dirt. Lots of flowers sprang up, there were really too many for the space,so I thought I mustnt just dump the whole box out next time. Turns out loads of them self seeded and I have a really lovely border now!
