Drug & Alcohol test for a new job

Had an interview for a job already, and now tomorrow as part of the screening I have to go and have both an alcohol test and a drugs test

What do you think this will involve and I am also assuming there is two separate tests?

I am not sure about the drugs test, but I think that the best way to determine alcohol abuse (not social drinking) over the previous six months is via a sample of your hair. At least, that's the method used with a few people I know.

Ah well I do drink socially, a few times a week but would never say I have abused it in any way

They can also test hair for drug use, although I don't know what they do with people who keep their hair very short so don't have more than a week or two's worth of hair to test. Maybe for alcohol, they can also do a liver function test?

If it's a safety critical role, they'll be the ongoing requirement that they could carry out tests at any time, perhaps if there was concern about an employee's conduct, or as part of an accident investigation, but I'm sure that's not a concern for normal levels of social drinking, more the 'more than one bottle of spirits a week' level of alcohol dependency.

Standard in the company I work for plus medical every 3 years I.e.Safety critical roles

A case of provide a controlled urine sample

No sample provided, no probs, collect P45 on your way out and you agree to this when you accept the job 👍👍👍👍👍

Works for me 👍👍👍

I had to have a drugs test for a job once. I just had to pee in a pot, much like a midwife appointment. I was in and out in 5 minutes.

Margo1983 · 05/06/2022 08:55

I am assuming it will involve probably a urine test and maybe a hair test as well, one of my friends did also mention there is a possibility they could take a mouth swab also

My DD has a test tomorrow as part of a medical for a new job, it's a urine sample, breathalyser said mouth swab apparently

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 05/06/2022 09:21

A hair strand test is unnecessary for this kind of process - it's time-consuming, costly, and generally only used to prove long-term alcohol/drug abuse.

Like a PP said, it'll be a urine sample and a mouth swab. Breathalyser if they can smell alcohol on you, most likely.
