Meant to be feeding next doors cat but I've been locked out!

My Neighbour asked me to feed & water her cat whilst they are on holiday. I've been going in everyday to look after her but yesterday when I tried the door wouldn't open. There's a Yale lock and a normal lock and it turns out one of the in laws has been round to water the plants and locked the normal lock. I only have a Yale key.
I messaged yesterday and she said she would get the in law to come back and unlock the door. I've tried again today but it's still locked.
This means the cat hasn't been fed or watered for 2 days.
Neighbour doesn't get back until Monday.

I feel stupid keep going to check a neighbours door and not being able to get in but I'm really worried about the poor cat.

What would you do? I've messaged again but not had a reply yet.

Whereabouts are you geographically? Could anyone on here help in any way? I really think you need to call the RSPCA or get the locks changed - this is urgent! Your fucking neighbour doesn't deserve to own a cat!

MermaidEyes · 04/06/2022 15:35

Op Please come back and update! If you've still had no answers ring the RSPCA, they will come out and see what they can do.

felineweird · 04/06/2022 15:45

If you DM me the address I will gladly phone the RSPCA for you if you are reluctant, then you can honestly say you didn't. This is actually genuinely stressing me out

A cat cannot go without food longer than about 48 hours before there are serious consequences. You need to get in touch urgently with someone who can open the door

Blethers!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 04/06/2022 15:56

I would phone the RSPCA if I couldn't smash the window
Poor cat
If you can afford it, a locksmith if they can do it without owners consent

saleorbouy · 04/06/2022 15:59

Freeze some water in a container and drop it through the letter box. The ice will melt and the cat can drink.

saleorbouy · 04/06/2022 16:00

Do not put dry food in the door if there is no access to water.

This is very clever and is what I would do.

Jajana · 04/06/2022 16:04

I like the idea of ice cubes

Cascais · 04/06/2022 16:31

Phone her

Sofasogood1 · 04/06/2022 16:36

Just call a locksmith. Why all the drama!

TigerLilyTail · 04/06/2022 16:51

Would a locksmith open up someone else's house without permission?

Yes! A locksmith broke into my car for me with no proof!

They don't ask to see the deeds to the house do they?! Just call a locksmith

HelpIneedsomebodywontyouplease · 04/06/2022 18:22

This is making me quite upset, I hope OP got in to the poor cat.

Clarich007 · 04/06/2022 18:27

Hope she comes back to update us

MermaidEyes · 04/06/2022 18:31

A locksmith won't just let you into any old house. They will ask to see proof of address, like a driving licence. If you don't have one then they will possibly verify with a neighbour that you actually live there. So no, it's probably not much use OP calling out a locksmith.

Maybe she hasn't got the money?

Imthekingsmummy · 04/06/2022 19:16

Just to update, the in laws have finally been round!
It has been stressful but the owner & inlaws havent seemed worried at all! I'd have been panicking if it was my cat 🤷🏻‍♀️

For those asking, I'm guessing the in laws suggested they'd pop and water the plants once in the week (despite the rain) whereas she asked me to feed the cat daily as I'm her neighbour.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 04/06/2022 19:19

Was the cat OK? And will you be able to get in every day now?

Imthekingsmummy · 04/06/2022 19:25

I haven't tried the door yet. My neighbour said the in laws would sort the cat out today so I'm assuming I'm back on cat duty tomorrow.. if I can get in!

OP posts:
RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 04/06/2022 19:25

Glad it's sorted now but can you please put it's water in a larger dish if the small one is dry every time you go round?

Imthekingsmummy · 04/06/2022 19:29

@RichardOsmansXraySpecs Oh absolutely! Without a doubt

I'd be wanting to check the door and the cat as soon as the inlaws left!
