Does anyone else find alcohol makes them feel awful?

I’ve never been a drinker, I have never liked the way it makes me feel.
I am in the minority within my circle of friends, they all drink loads and think I am strange for not drinking.
I did a favour for a neighbour the other week, she thanked me with a bottle of Chardonnay (always makes me laugh when people automatically assume you drink). It’s been in the fridge, I was waiting to give it to a friend but ds cracked it open, tried it and said it was disgusting and so I thought I would have a gulp to try.
Literally, that’s all it was, a very large gulp.
20 mins later and I feel crap. My stomach feels like I have swallowed acid (I do have IBS) a d is now gurgling, my thighs and lower tummy area feel weirdly heavy and I feel like I need to pee. I feel really hot and flushed and just off. Also feel nauseous.
I feel like this every single time I drink any kind of alcohol, it’s weird but it obviously does not agree with my body. It’s been like this since I was a teen (49 now).
My sister says she is the same but apart from her everyone else I know has no issue.
Does anyone else feel like this with alcohol?

My 22 year old daughter is the same. She just avoids it now. Despite working in a bar!

It does sound like you’re intolerant or allergic.

I do like alcohol, particularly wine, but can easily say no to it. For example, I don’t drink alcohol at lunchtime because it gives me a headache. There’s a certain type of person who gets riled up when other people won’t drink alcohol, they almost seem to take it as a personal slight! I almost enjoy saying ‘no’ and being very firm about not drinking anything if I’m around somebody like this.

Yes. I've always kept quiet about it as people think I'm a wimp!

I could only manage 2 glasses of wine when I was younger before I felt rough and hungover. About half an hour after drinking it!

Now in my early 40's, I can't even stomach a few sips. Leads to a headache and feeling groggy immediately.

I suspect the big drinkers of my youth who got so much kudos for being able to drink all night (and not appear drunk) were still damaging their livers in a big way. I bloody hate the drinking culture of my youth.

I think I must have some kind of intolerance which has become worse with age.
I was awake virtually all night, I felt so rough. I have gut issues anyhow but was kept awake with the most awful burning gut, nausea and felt horrible. Was fine all day, it was literally soon after I had swallowed that wine.
Will never touch it again, it’s gone straight down the sink this morning.
