I never understood people who vacuumed daily

....then I got a toddler.

What fresh hell is this mess?

Even with bibs, high chairs, trays, suction plates, hand wiping etc etc. He just leaves a trail of crumbs and general mess.

Is mine just a mucky pup or is this normal?

I have 4 kids, I do it several times a day!

Knittedfairies · 03/06/2022 20:01

Having a dog is a godsend during the dropped food years. Ours got a bit chubby when we were weaning DD. Dog and a robot hoover!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 03/06/2022 20:05

I got one of these push along things they used to have in caravans when I was a kid, just because its quicker to grab that from behind the door and do the messy bits than to drag the hoover out from the cupboard under the stairs multiple times a day.

Yep same! Moderate cleaning with two adults but dear god, the 3 year old leaves a trail of crumbs everywhere he goes!

I would be lost without my cordless hoover. I get it out at least once a day to hoover the downstairs. Mine aren't even toddlers but they still manage to get food and crumbs everywhere.

I do blame laminate for some of the hoovering though, pre kids and with carpet I didn't hoover half as much. It's odd that I hoover before bed then get up and the laminate needs hoovering again. I've never understood where it comes from.

Thankfully it doesn't take long, quick run round, job done. Much easier than a dustpan and brush.

myyellowcar · 03/06/2022 20:35

I literally leave it clean (often cleaned with a cloth on hands and knees) each night and come down in the morning to shite everywhere.

YY laminate - we have a coffee table that the cats cannot fit under but if we moved it there's enugh hair there to knit a new kitten.
And behind the doors , tumbleweed of moggiefur ................

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 03/06/2022 21:07

Three kids under 5 plus two cats. Our vacuum is more valuable to us than our car, oven and toaster combined 😂

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/06/2022 21:17

I had laminate flooring when DS was a toddler. Easy to quickly sweep crumbs up. Fuck hoovering every day.

Mammma91 · 03/06/2022 21:19

I’m feeling this on a personal level op. Pre children I had a £50 eBay hoover I hoovered once ever few days everywhere. Now I’ve upgraded to a shark pet hoover and I hoover at least two - three times a day. I love my hoover now 😂 my 3 year old makes a crazy amount of mess!!!

^This, although we have a pair of Dysons (light upstairs and the beast Animal downstairs)

What I don't understand is why one of the cats will wait until we've hoovered before using her litter tray...🤔🤦‍♀️

Benjispruce4 · 03/06/2022 21:38

I had two and don’t remembered hoovering more than twice a week. I never gave them food unless they were in the high chair or at the table when older. Wipe down after. If you say you do this the I don’t understand.

silentpool · 03/06/2022 21:41

My Eufy goes round every day. I don't understand where the dust comes from but Eufy deals with it.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 03/06/2022 21:50

I have teens. They are fine. It’s the bloody malting dog that’s doing my head in at the moment!! So much hair!!

I was going to say exactly the same

OddSocksandRainbowDocs · 03/06/2022 22:40

You need a labrador in your life. When our daughter is getting fed, he's in the next room behind the baby gate. Once our daughter has finished, he's allowed in and hoovers up for us. Not lettuce though, he's very fussy about eating lettuce! Grin

december2020 · 04/06/2022 07:03

Yesterday I hoovered twice. Grin

Yet I swear this morning the place looks crumb-y and the main culprit is still asleep!
Do they hoard it somewhere overnight and and enchant it to go crumb up the place while we're all sleeping?
(I think my brain is just on the crumbs - it's not that bad this morning).

Thank god it's not just me! Blush

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo this gadget looks genius!! Does it pick up crumbs well?

Is sweeping any less effort though?

I second the eufy robot recommendations, also a cordless stick vacuum makes life easier if you don’t already have one.

We had one of them (U-bank ? )When I was much younger ,
It was great at quick nip rounds . It picked up crumbs, fluff , pet / human hair .

It also have the advantage of being almost completely silent , except for a annoying squeak it developed in its old age so it can be used very early in the morning or late at night without disturbing neighbours of sleeping family members

As I said upthead get a eufy as well!
