Helped by the huge spoiler in a previous post, which I would have preferred not to see. I don’t usually look at this thread before I solve it, but the clue was there in my watched threads…

25 guesses today, 84% accuracy. Happy with that.

There were clues to the type of thing, and fairly subtle ones for some details, on quite close reading. I could then only think of one that would fit the word lengths.

Well I got the first word of the title quite early on (73) - lucky guess, but a slightly informed one as I knew roughly what I was looking for.

But I know I don't know the second word. If I did, I'd have got it in 74!

I'd find it not in a trice on google. But right now I'm playing in a different way, and merrily racking up the guesses as I try to fill in the whole of the rest of the article!

|will probably can that and google in about 10 mins when pedantle comes out...

I do it the opposite way and try to work out enough blanks in my head to get it. Not quite sure which dank corner of my brain this one lurked in, I'm a bit at it really being in the topmost 10,000 'vital' Wikipedia entries.

I've got most of the words in the first paragraph so know exactly what sort of thing it is but am still baffled. I'd expect that it was really obscure. But I would have sworn I know slightly more about this subject than the average UK MNer and loads of you have got it. What am I missing???? (Don't tell me, I'm sure it will come to me eventually).

Finally got it. 349 guesses. The words just escaped me, but finally came to mind after I'd filled in the bulk of the narrative.

Maybe if you know more about this general subject you'd have more options to confuse you?!

I think the phrase was just hiding. I was thinking of everything I knew in that category, and drawing an absolute blank and then it suddenly sprang to mind out of nowhere.
