Has anyone else's local Facebook group kicked off about the jubilee?

Our town council put up some bunting. It's red, white, blue, er, green and orange... They've basically reused some old bunting.

The result is that people have complained about it on the local Facebook group for not being, I dunno, flag like enough I guess?

Anyway, more people have piled on about the lack of events celebrating the event. There's a picnic in the park organised and a band will be playing. It's a town of around 8,000 people so I'm not sure what else is expected.

But this has led to someone else posting overnight about how we should "fuck the jubilee" because something something cost of living crisis / Prince Andrew / racism.

So now it's all kicked off and people are hurling insults at each other.

All because of a bit of bunting.

Anyone else's group gone a bit mad?

All seems fairly peaceful here, but I’m mainly on the part of the group which is the village crafting group. We’ve worked together on a village post-box topper and helping at the village fete.
There are a few events planned, mainly around the children’s groups; the choir (starts off as the church choir and naturally expands every Christmas for the services then, has done the same now) and simple events on the village green.
Rural village in Suffolk, population 1500ish.

I couldn't give a flying monkeys about the jubilee but I do like a sunny bank holiday weekend. Don't understand all the fuss!

I've seen a few pictures of postbox toppers from around the country and they look amazing! So clever.

We've had one person complaining about the lack of bunting in the town centre, compared to other neighbouring towns and villages. 99% of all responses have basically said that they don't want to celebrate the monarchy and have cited poverty/country's economic condition/Prince Andrew/capitalism/the fact that they still have to work as the reason why. I am in quite a lefty/green town however, and there are still quite a few street parties going on, and a ceremonial tree-planting event organised by the Town Council.

CMOTDibbler · 01/06/2022 09:48

Lots of complaints about the lack of bunting/flags and not enough events. The shops on the high street have all decorated their windows, and there is a picnic in the park with bands but apparently this isn't enough. My street have decorated and there will be a community pot luck on Friday plus games, and one of the neighbours will complain massively as usual. Which everyone enjoys tbh as she is so miserable

Eddiesferret · 01/06/2022 20:21

No not at all. Small Sussex village. 4 days of community events . For me it means villagers getting to know each other and making friendships

Ours is kicking off about county council interference after they confiscated a jubilee scarecrow display:

I'm so disappointed that they've taken this down. We live a bit further up the coast but are going to Llanerchaeron at the weekend and were hoping to pass it!

carefullycourageous · 01/06/2022 20:50

I am in blissful ignorance as I don't do FB so no idea if there even is a local group. Not seen any bunting locally, one house out of hundreds has a union flag on their garage but that is all I have spotted so far.

It just doesn't seem to be much of a thing.

Unless there is a big party locally and we have missed the invite!

SilverGlassHare · 01/06/2022 20:52

Yes! Because our town council hasn’t put up any bunting! Much patriotic frothing. It’s hilarious.

SilverGlassHare · 01/06/2022 20:56

@CMOTDibbler Our shops have also decorated and we have a party in the park… does your town name begin with F?!

Hamnetsdad · 01/06/2022 20:58

No - our village has gone full pelt with a life size knitted queen😂we made the press.

Sharrowgirl · 01/06/2022 20:58

It’s starting to ramp up where I live, more and more bunting appearing on houses. South East. Plenty of events planned as well.

CreamyBruley · 01/06/2022 20:58

No but I live in a very flag shaggy town and they’re all queueing up to insert their tongue up the royal rectum.

CMOTDibbler · 01/06/2022 20:59

@SilverGlassHare No, we are P - but I get the feeling that the same things are happening up and down the country.

LetitiaLeghorn · 01/06/2022 21:03

I think this might be our borough's fault. We have enough bunting for the entire country. Apparently we ❤ any excuse for a party. 🥳

MunchMunch · 01/06/2022 21:04

Yes there's a post about a man who has gone round and torn down all the bunting that was put up by local elderly and disabled residents who use a group within the community.

His rant on his personal Facebook that was shared on the Facebook group that I'm on (and how I found out about it) included rants about God,, child abuse, Prince Andrew, Jonny Saville, Adrenochrome, the Queens German and family line traced back to "child rapist of Islam", killing bears for the queens guards and a few other things I can't quite remember.
So yeah, it seems like people are kicking off and the bunting is getting a kicking!

**Jimmy Saville

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 01/06/2022 21:09

Not a peep about it on our village page.

SilverGlassHare · 01/06/2022 21:11

@CMOTDibbler Yes very likely!

BarryKentPoet · 01/06/2022 21:19

Our local group is frothing about campervans only being allowed 1 night down at the beachfront now, and someone made bunting out of knickers and hung it in protest on the new sign announcing the rules.

LakeTiticaca · 01/06/2022 21:23

After all the past 2 years of shit, lockdowns, restrictions etc what's wrong with having a bit of fun?
No matter what's going on anywhere, there's always a bunch of miserable fun sponges complaining because people are daring to be happy.
So just enjoy your sour faced misery and leave everyone else alone!!

Tupperwarelid · 01/06/2022 21:26

Lack of bunting in the high street is disgusting apparently.

Squiff70 · 01/06/2022 21:28

I'll just leave this here.

Has anyone else's local Facebook group kicked off about the jubilee?
