Suggestions for UK weekend city break for my Mum and I?

My Mum and I are wanting to book a last minute weekend break, probably 1 or 2 nights somewhere. We're happy to drive or take the train. We live near London.

Places we have been before and enjoyed include Oxford, Cambridge, Bath, Arundel, Windsor, Edinburgh and the New Forest.

We're not too fussy, just fancy a change of scenery.

Any ideas? We were thinking of York or the Cotswolds?

York is a good choice. There’s lots to see and do and all within walking distance. We liked Liverpool as well.

Norwich is lovely, historic city, good shopping, friendly, lots to do, great choice of restaurants for every budget, not far from the coast, if you fancy a sandy beach.

York is great, a lot of people have been raving about Liverpool lately or if you’re willing to fly I really like Belfast.

I was immediately thinking of York. Really easy on the train from London, loads to see and do and it's a small city so it's easy to walk around.

I don't live in the UK but over the years I've enjoyed visiting Winchester, Norwich, Liverpool, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow.

I'd like to go to York, Bath & Leeds in the future

Not cities, but Bakewell and Matlock Bath are both lovely for a short stay

Bristol is great. Lovely riverside regeneration, M-Shed social history museum, SS Great Britain, Banksy, Clifton Suspension Bridge, Brandon Hill etc
