Which songs/lyrics did you learn as a child (at school)?

I have just discovered my 10 year old did not know the drunken sailor. I remember learning that at Brownies! I take full blame and the mistake has been rectified, although I'm sure we learned other lyrics than the Rovers version.
DC don't go to a UK school so they don't hear anything British/Irish unless it's through me. What other songs are missing from their education?

@Morph22010 - if you take my advice there's nothing so nice as messing around on the river!
Did we go to the same primary school! 😂
Though probably not if you don't know Marco Polo it was pretty much a classic at our school!!

No I don’t recall the Marco Polo one so must have been a different school 😂

not a song, more of a rhyme, we used to do a version of what I now know as going to a bear hunt but this was the late 1970 way before best hunt was published.

rhe teacher would say a line then all the kids would repeat. It started off

we’re all going on a buffalo hunt
got my gun
and my holster by my side

you just can’t imagine a school doing this one now!!!

In the juniors we had a photocopied additional songbook. It was, and I shit you not, callsd Negro Spirituals, and had things like Swing Low Sweet Chariot, and Jericho, with 'authentic' language like 'de' for the.

We used to sing them with a mock accent. Led by the teacher. What the actual fuck were they thinking?

Lots of hymns from the Veritas hymnal.

Plus many music hall songs from the heyday of music halls -
My Sweet Little Alice Blue Gown
Two Little Maids
Little Mister Baggy Britches

And my sister's class had BBC radio songs -
Quenoro's Pearl
The Erie Canal
Many, many more...

Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes made of ticky-tack
Little boxes on the hillside
And they all look just the same
There’s a green one, and a blue one and a red one and a yellow one
And they’re all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same
