Blue badge parking

Just taken my mum to the pharmacy to collect my dads end of life care medications. We parked in the disabled bay (she has a blue badge) but in the end she couldn't face going in to collect them so I did, and left her in the car. It didn't occur to me to move since she wasn't getting out.

Came out to find a random man taking photos of my car (and presumably my mum!). I'm assuming he's going to report me for parking in the disabled space.

I don't know if this a thing? Who will he report me to? Are they accepting photos from random members of the public as proof of parking infractions, with no other evidence? He definitely wasn't a traffic warden and there wasn't a ticket on the car.

If he reports me, what do I do? Just send a photo of my mums blue badge? Could really do without this at the moment 😢

I wouldn't know so what makes you think some other random person would?

Because the badge number that is displayed on the front of the badge includes the badge holder’s DOB (month and year).

Right, but not everyone knows that, was my point. I didn't know that so what makes you think the random man knew it?

x or y for female or male. Wow didn’t Linus that.

It’s impossible to tell whether the man knew, but if he did it’s there so the pp saying he wouldn’t know it wasn’t the OP’s badge unless looking at the picture on the back isn’t right - which was my point.

LargeLegoHaul · 31/05/2022 17:42

Very weirdly, X is the marker for male and Y for female.

Saracenia · 31/05/2022 17:50

I'm sorry it's not obvious to everyone what the coding on the front means and you'd have to look pretty closely to read it. I doubt very much anything will happen OP.

This. The badge could have belonged to the driver of the car, This is so strange. Who has time to go to the trouble of all this. Bizarre.

Probably someone who is sick of seeing disabled spaces being abused and making it more difficult or even impossible for people with low mobility to access places.

The law is clear, you only use the BB when the disabled person is getting out of the car, having said that I doubt some random taking photos will lead to anything happening.

Alpenguin · 31/05/2022 17:55

Sometimes I sit in the car for a good while before getting out. It’s because I have a disability that I need to do so not because it’s fun sitting in car parks.

busybodies like that man need to piss off.

itsgettingweird · 31/05/2022 17:56

He can't prove your mum never got out of the car.

My ds has a blue badge. Sometimes if his legs hurt he'll head back to car sooner as I'm paying for stuff (for example at supermarket)

So he's in the car with his BB.

No, I’m not joking. On blue badges X really is the marker for male and Y for female. Here is a link to confirm.
