Some of the Black Mirror episodes really creep me and out and stay with me - White Bear and Shut Up and Dance in particular.

Both of those episodes have me proper nightmares, particularly White Bear. So disturbing.

Seven. The bit with the big knife. Can never unsee that.

It is the lust scene. Truly awful.

War zone - can't watch any ray winstone stuff since seeing it
Manchester by the sea - such a sad movie

SafeMove · 02/06/2022 18:58

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Gumbo or Audition. Gumbo is a headfuck. But Salo / 100 Days of Sodom definitely pushes the boundaries most.

Agree with Last House on the Left, Funny Games, Hostel and Martyrs was almost unwatchable.

There was a film set in Ireland about a new couple who went on holiday together and they got lost and stalked by a psychopath and the broke the guys hand by bending it back. Wish I could remember it's name.

meganorks · 02/06/2022 19:03

Dancer in the Dark. A film with Bjork in it. I started crying about half way through and didn't stop.
Requiem for a Dream. Kept thinking it couldn't get any worse. It could.

thewrongcolourcup · 02/06/2022 19:06

Came here to say the same- watched it completely unaware of how harrowing it would be.

thewrongcolourcup · 02/06/2022 19:08

Urgh! The Boy in the striped pyjamas is what I meant to say ⬆️

The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas - even worse than Schindler's List. I don't think I'll ever be able to watch it again.

Yes completely

The Dying Rooms- Cannel 4 doc about discarded female babies in China. 20 years ago but still upsetting to reflect on.

SweetPetrichor · 02/06/2022 20:19

The only film that’s ever left me with a lasting impression like that is Viharsarok.

BarryStir · 02/06/2022 20:51

Threads is out on its own in this category. Horrific.

Emotionally, I struggled to watch Green Mile and A Monster Calls (though in the latter case the book was even better)

XenoBitch · 02/06/2022 20:52

Earthlings. Is all real too.

thenightsky · 02/06/2022 21:15

Hostel... the first one. Me and my friend went to see it at the cinema and when it started to become clear what was going to happen, she leaned over to me and whispered... 'fucking hell, this is too real, like I bet this is based on reality'.

Eaumyword · 02/06/2022 21:37

Eli Roth got the idea for Hostel supposedly after hearing about underground practices where poverty is so horrendous that family members literally offer themselves up so their family doesn't starve.
Don't know if this is really true, but even the premise is utterly chilling and tragic.

everythingissoexpensivenow · 02/06/2022 21:42

The Accused
Schindler's List
Last Exit to Brooklyn

Phrenologistsfinger · 03/06/2022 00:36

Bambi (I was about 5)
the Road
most of those listed I know I would struggle with - I just don’t want to put that in my brain.

Maytodecember · 03/06/2022 07:48

The Dying Rooms, because it happens. Will haunt me forever.
A film, don’t know the title, but people murdered in a scrapyard ( might have been Australian) so realistic, gave me nightmares.
The Magdalene Sisters, made me very angry.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/06/2022 14:07

I had never watched The Dying Rooms but obviously knew about the documentary , couldn't believe it was 1995 !
I was horrific and the last few seconds of the baby girl with "No Name" , was harrowing to say the least .
The lovely brand new empty dining room contrasting with the baby tied to a wooden chair being headbutted repeatedly by an older child ................and the baby didn't even cry , no doubt this was a sad acceptance of their life Sad

Yes, I believe this is sadly true. He said he came across a website, where people (In Thailand) were offering themselves to be shot in the head for $10,000 - which would be given to their family…..😔

clockbuscanada · 03/06/2022 18:41

Breaking the Waves

clockbuscanada · 03/06/2022 18:43

Oh, and Half Nelson as well.

Schindlers List, watched it at the cinema and have refused to watch it again.
Sophies Choice.
The Imitation of Life, an old Lana Turner film has me bawling any time I've watched it.
Years ago DH sat down to watch Bridge To Terabithia with the DDs and was traumatised by it. The DDs were fine 😄.

Imitations of Life is one of my favourite films ever. It is very sad at the end but it's so beautifully acted by all and a wonderful story that I am prepared for the ending. I once watched it and then rewatched it immediately after pre kids Grin as I love it so much. I still cried.

Dead Man's Shoes. I could never watch that again. Ditto Monster.

A friend recommended this for me to watch with a fairly new guy on a first at home date at my house. We'd had other dates but this was the first date where something might happen type of date.

Awkward as actual Fuck we had to turn it off.
