Has anyone visited Texas, particularly the Dallas-Fort Worth area?

A friend and I planning on visiting friends in Texas. One lives in Abilene and the other lives in McKinney. I was thinking of using Dallas as a base but I'd consider Fort Worth or Arlington too. I've never visited either so I wondered which city people would recommend as a base as I want to spend time getting to know the cities too. I know that Dallas is the big one and I'm tempted by there as there's so much to do but are we going to spend most of our time sitting in traffic?

TIA

Also, I'd appreciate any suggestions of things you enjoyed doing in DFW.

TIA

I’ve been to Dallas and FW, but not for very long.

Fort Worth is a bit touristy, there’s a lot of cowboy and BBQ stuff, but it’s good fun. Billy Bob’s Honky Tonk is a must see. They also did a cattle drive through town when I was there. I think it would be exhausted after a night or two though.
Dallas is a nice city with a nice climate. More cosmopolitan and walkable than say, Houston.

Like I said though, only there for a day or two each time.

Thank you so much for responding. It's very helpful. I'll definitely pay BillyBob's a visit.
