Civil service jobs

I work in CS in a job I’m starting to hate. I can perform above my level but rarely get to to TDA as my manager hasn’t got any leave booked.

I successfully applied for a promotion recently, but I think the position has been placed on hold now

I felt that earlier this year, there was loads of jobs available in the grade above including EOIs. But now there’s barely anything with redundancies possibly looming, anyone else feeling a bit down about it all?

I feel a bit trapped in my current workplace

I completely get you OP. The feeling of being trapped is overwhelming at times.

I’ve been looking internally for around 6 months as I have hit breaking point in a frontline role. Finally found something of equal pay that sounded perfect for me, applied, interviewed, and have now been told they’ve frozen recruitment. I’d keep looking, but I know I’m stuck really. I’m in a role where there has been a massive shortage of staff for years, the sector in crisis in most regions for the past couple of those, so I know there’s around 0% chance I’d be made redundant.

Something that has helped me a bit is having a date in my diary, a deadline to start looking outside of the civil service for roles. That and applying to reduce my hours when I’m back from maternity leave end of next year so I have less time there being stressed and miserable. It may be worth thinking about?
