Do you buy brand name antihistamines?

Dh and ds (10) are both taking Piriton for hay-fever. Just wondering if non brand ones are as affective 🤔

They have exactly the same amount of lotrazine or cetrazine -sp?!! As the brand names. So basically you’re a mug for buying piriton etc when you can get non brands for about 50p .

And I work outdoors and yes they’re effective 👍

I take Sainsbury's own every single day from March to October. Seem to work well, but I do still stream occasionally.

I’d like a hot tip on where to buy properly generic ones in their 100s tbh. Anyone?

I don't take Piriton because it knocks me out but I don't buy other branded antihistamines - just generic loratadine or citirizine. Same way I don't pay extra for Nurofen - just buy generic ibuprofen. They all work just as well.

To me generic cetirizine and loratadine work about the same as brand name, which is, not much. Fexofenadine is where it's at

Lidl do 14 cetirizine for 99p, work fine!

Yes non branded ones are fine I am prescribed lortardine for allergies if I forget to order my prescription I just buy own brand.

They are the same and a lot cheaper!
Be aware though piriton is the brand name and they make medications containing cetirizine or chloramphenicol, both antihistamines but different meds.

Pharmacy should be able to sell or prescribe more its better than buying your smaller packets

I take generic cetirizine. I find it works better than loratadine, and nothing like as sedating as chlorphenamine. I don't find that branding makes any difference to efficacy of antihistamines.

Plain unbranded Cetirizine Hydrochloride (not di-hydrochloride - I'm allergic to that) works as well as any brand, at a fraction of the price. And if you look around for ROUND tablets, you can cut them into 4 which for me is still effective most of the year (half a tablet during the hayfever season) and makes them last 4 times as long = very cheap.

I use Boots or Lloyds own brand. Boots sell packs of 60.

We buy Allacan cetirizine from Amazon it’s really cheap and works as well as branded .

The active ingredient in Piriton is chlorphenamine and many chemists stock it. We buy the Lloyds Chemists version.

I buy Asda/Sainsbury/Lidl one a day antihistamine tablest. Exactly same drug so just as effective and Much Much cheaper

Yes generic brands work the same, I used to work in a pharmacy and felt awful when someone asked for say a £3.00 box of Neurofen when they could buy a 40p packet of Ibuprofen, sometimes people would switch but often they go for the brand because they "trust it and it works"

I buy the own brand ones usually, apart from one time DD had a bad allergic reaction to mosquito bites and the walk-in centre specifically said to get Piriton - NOT Piriteze - and take it every couple of hours to reduce the swelling. Not sure why but it worked!

Branded doesn't make a blind bit of difference as long as the active ingredients are the same, and in the same amounts.

Supermarket pharmacies sell packs of sixty one-a-day for a few pounds. All work equally as well as the branded ones.
