I'm sure it was the last dance late 80's but I was always pissed and my oppo insists I remember it from the pub.

Vampirethriller · 28/05/2022 20:43

I had an LP, Raiders of the Pop Charts, when I was little in the 80s- been trying to remember what was on it. Fantasy Island by Tight Fit and Cacharpaya definitely were,

DamnUserName21 · 28/05/2022 20:51

Agree with loads of these--classics
Heart-Alone
Bryan Adams--Heaven
Electric dreams
Winds of change
Take my breath away
Hazard
Cher galore
Tina Turner galore

What an era!

Dundonian · 28/05/2022 20:56

I can't possibly pick just one!

Your Love - The Outfield
Story Of The Blues - The Mighty Wah!
The Motive - Then Jerico
Love Is A Wonderful Colour - The Icicle Works
Chocolate Girl - Deacon Blue
Father Figure - George Michael
Glittering Prize - Simple Minds
There It Is & A Night To Remember - Shalamar
You Came - Kim Wilde

I'm sure I'll be back later with more! I was an 80s teen and the music is everything to me.

Dundonian · 28/05/2022 21:06

Europop was brilliant in the 80s, too.

Dolce Vita - Ryan Paris.
Maria Magdalena - Sandra.

Thanks for this brilliant thread, OP!

Yes - the fabulous London Boys (RIP) - with Requiem, London Nights and Harlem Desire in the late 80s. Not just great songs but some of the best dance performances I have ever seen!

Lovetok · 28/05/2022 21:42

DC Lee - See The Day
So many Gloria Estefan songs - Can’t Stay Away From You, Don’t Wanna Lose You, Betcha Say That, and although I just checked and it was released in 1990 - Cuts Both Ways. Beautiful song.

ButNotTonight20 · 28/05/2022 22:00

Shout - tears for fears (in fact anything by tears for fears!)
Don't dream it's over - Crowded House
Stripped - Depeche mode - RIP Fletch :-(

WeAreTheHeroes · 28/05/2022 22:55

Tears for Fears were the first gig I went to - Shout was amazing live with the audience joining in.
I'm also a big Crowded House fan - Don't Dream it's Over would be one of my dessert island discs.
Other 80s songs I love are Just an Illusion by Imagination, Big in Japan by Alphaville, I Got You by Split Enz. I could be here all night.

Pootle40 · 28/05/2022 22:59

Anyone remember 'big area' by Then Jericho? Loved that. Also 'cuddly toy' by roachford.

ExistentialApathy · 28/05/2022 23:00

Starship - nothing's gonna stop us now, Labi Siffre, something inside so strong, all Whitney Houston, all Michael Jackson

Pootle40 · 28/05/2022 23:01

glamourousindierockandroll · 28/05/2022 08:45

Keeping The Dream Alive by Freiheit

LOVE IT!

Alphavilla · 28/05/2022 23:07

Big in Japan by alphaville obviously!!
Also huge madness fan, spent many happy times bouncing to baggy trousers, house of fun, one step beyond, night boat to Cairo, my girl and those other nutty tunes! Never grown out of them 😂

reetas · 28/05/2022 23:12

Take on me or Waiting for a star to fall. I could never pick one over the other, I absolutely love them. Takes me right back. Love the 80's

WeAreTheHeroes · 28/05/2022 23:19

Love Resurrection by Alison Moyet.

Temptation by Heaven 17

West End Girls by Pet Shop Boys

Cry Wolf by Aha

There are also loads of songs I wasn't that keen on at the time, but I now appreciate and enjoy with a dollop of nostalgia.

CandyLeBonBon · 28/05/2022 23:22

Ghosts by Japan/David Sylvian
Cry boy Cry - Blye Zoo
Fireworks Siouxie and the banshees
one in 10 UB40
Will you hazel o Connor

But actually too too many - god I love the 80s!

WeAreTheHeroes · 28/05/2022 23:35

Obsession by Animotion is another

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 28/05/2022 23:38

WeAreTheHeroes Loved Just An Illusion.

Also whoever sang Abracadabra and Video Killed The Radio Star, was that the 80's and The Safety Dance..

OP posts:
WeAreTheHeroes · 28/05/2022 23:43

Abracadabra - Steve Miller Band

Video Killed the Radio Star was The Buggles

Safety Dance - Men Without Hats

I think hearing stuff on the radio and recording favourites was something a lot of us did!

VanillaImpulse · 29/05/2022 17:58
