I've just heard about Fletch! Depeche Mode are the soundtrack to my life. First gig at 15 and followed them ever since.
So sad 😞

So very sad.

DareDevil223 · 26/05/2022 23:02

I'm heartbroken, they've been one of my favourite bands since the beginning and I've seen them live numerous times over the years. Fletch seems to have been a real gent, friendly, warm and kind. So sorry for his family and of course for Dave and Martin who must be devastated.

I've just heard and I'm stunned and gutted. I've been a fan of theirs from the very start and they have been the soundtrack to my life. I can't believe I'll never get to see them live again, I was so hoping they'd tour the UK again soon.

Very sad news indeed. I’m a younger fan to some on here it seems (first tour was Ultra), but the band - tours, promo nights and being friends with other crazy fans was a huge part of my college and uni years.

I was just reminiscing to my DP recently about how I and another DM-obsessed friend used to go to Fletch’s restaurant in St John‘s Wood in the hopes of seeing him at the bar - but being ever so cool if he was and pretending we hadn’t noticed. Also went with a big organised group of fans once (no chance of playing it cool then), and he came to have a chat - came across as a thoroughly good chap. Happy times.

Very sad - Depeche Mode saw me through my teens. RIP.

TotalRhubarb · 27/05/2022 00:34

Gutted. They’re my favourite band. RIP Fletch.

DinosaursEatMan · 27/05/2022 00:37

I’m sorry to hear that, it’s far too young. Such a brilliant band.

JaneJeffer · 27/05/2022 00:38

Sad news.

elp30 · 27/05/2022 00:39

I was very sorry to learn the news of Fletch's sudden death.
I'm very sad about it.
May he Rest In Peace.

GuiltyPleasure · 27/05/2022 00:46

So sad. My absolute favourite band ever. They've been such a huge part of my life since the beginning. Fletch was truly the glue that held them together. RIP 😢

notangelinajolie · 27/05/2022 01:05

I went to see them at Tropicana 🏝😎on Oxford Road in Manchester around 1981/2. Me and my friend helped them load their stuff into their van afterwards. I think Blancmange were the headline act but it was Depeche Mode we went to see. I must have been 17. Apart from Depeche Mode’s brilliance the other thing I remember id everyone screaming at Blancmange to turn the sound down, it was the most deafening gig (to this day) I have ever been to.
I still have my signed ticket and some very rubbish photos of them on stage and one of me and Andy Fletcher. Dave Gahan disappeared off somewhere after the gig, so no photo with him.

fantasmasgoria1 · 27/05/2022 04:49

Yes huge fan, favourite band. So very sad. My heart goes out to his family, band mates and friends.

mathanxiety · 27/05/2022 04:57

Very sad. He was too young.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 27/05/2022 07:03

I was so shocked when I heard the news last night. He was the glue that held the band together. RIP Fletch

TullyApplebottom · 27/05/2022 07:14

v sad. I love the Mode. Once you fall in love with them it’s forever, they inspire such loyalty.

KateModeDM · 27/05/2022 12:37

Absolutely sad and shocked..so unexpected.I love them from 91 and saw a couple times live...😥RIP Fletch 🖤

Yourownpersonaljesus · 27/05/2022 19:07

Such sad news. First saw them live in 1984 and then many, many times since. Met Fletch lots of times over the years - a truly lovely, down to earth man.

Chewbecca · 27/05/2022 19:13

My first concert was the Black Celebration tour. I can still remember the shivers and thud in my chest that night.

Shocked and saddened at Fletch’s early demise, he seemed to live such a normal life.

ssd · 28/05/2022 09:27

I remember seeing 'new life' by DM on top of the pops, mesmerising.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 28/05/2022 09:33

Aw Damn.
RIP Fletch... thanks for the music.

tothesea · 28/05/2022 10:15

I am so sad about Fletch. DM have been the soundtrack of my life since the first notes of New Life rang out on TOTP and I thought - oh this is for me!!!
I always loved Fletch’s drier than dry sense of humour, puncturing the pomposity somewhat! He was such a lovely guy. I still can’t quite believe he has gone. I was at their last gig at Waldbuhne Berlin. It was beyond amazing. RIP Fletch.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 31/03/2023 22:21

Sorry I posted on the wrong thread.

HimalayanSnowcock · 01/04/2023 00:40

Don't apologise @Yourownpersonaljesus , thanks for resurrecting the thread. I was so sad when Fletch died and thought that was the end of DM but now times have moved on and there's a new album and tour. For which I am super excited about as I have tickets and I can't wait to see them again. I'm going to enjoy it all the more for knowing that it possibly wasn't going to happen.
PS... what thread did you think you were posting on?
