Algarve in December?

I've found very cheap tickets for mid December but worried there isn't enough to do. Three dc, mid to late teens. We don't drink so the usual suggestions of glass of wine in old town square don't appeal. The dc like a bit of action but can't really find anything on TripAdvisor other than Parque Aventura. The top #20 things to do are all beach related, but don't think in December it will really be beach weather.
Speaking of the weather, is it likely to pour down the whole week? We've done Spain at the same time and been very lucky weather wise.
We'd be hiring a car so free to travel around. Probably stay in Albufeira for centrality.
Any advice welcome!

We stayed in Silves for Christmas one year and the weather was lovely, around 20 degrees and sunny every day. I am not sure if it is typical or if we were just lucky. We spent a lot of time at the villa which had an indoor pool, eating out and horse riding. We had a younger child, I am not sure how much there is to do with teens.

@Wheretheskyisblue thanks for that. Silves would definitely be a day trip for us, we love history.
