EHIC. when travelling abroad

There wasn't really a specific area I could put this in Travel so hope it's ok here.

I had not realised that we are still entitled to an European Health Care Card despite leaving the EU. It entitles you to quite a bit of health care, emergency treatment etc if you are holidaying in a EU country. ( not that this replaces travel insurance I realise).

It's pretty straightforward applying for it online, or should be. But for some reason once I've filled it out the " submit" part just times out saying error. Really frustrating. Is anyone else having this problem?

Sorry, yes. It is the GHIC and it is that site I’m using.

My understanding is that EHIC cards issued by the UK while the UK was in the EU and during the transition period are still good until their expiry date.

If you did not have an EHIC card before the end of the transition period (31 Dec 2020) or your EHIC had expired and you are applying/renewing now you can still get an EHIC if you are a UK citizen legally resident in an EU country under the terms of the withdrawal agreement, but otherwise you have to apply for the GHIC.

I’m having trouble too

I ordered ours a couple of weeks ago and it went OK.

What problems are you having? It lets me input a few pages and then when I press continue it says error and I have to keep on repeating the information. . And finally when I get to the final page and press submit the spinning round thing just keeps on spinning!

Ordered mine last week and all went fine, sounds like the website is just a bit glitchy tonight. Try again tomorrow!
