Do you think 2k a month is enough to live off for the next 40yrs?

If you don't need to pay a mortgage but you have all the expenses of running a house/repairs etc, plus car. Could you live comfortably off 2k a month for the rest of your life? Today 2k is a lot but in 20 or 30yrs time it might be peanuts. I am not entitled to the state pension so this will be all I have. I know I could live frugally off this but I don't want to be frugal for forever more, I'd like to be comfortable.

I can't make that add up. 90 plus 140 is 230 plus 30 is 260 plus 68 is 328. I can't get that to under £300.

I can't believe some of these low council taxes! Band A round me is nearly 140 a month.

Well it is considerably more than I will have so I hope you are very comfortable on it.

bills here council tax 180 ( in Scotland so includes water not on mains drainage so a discount for that) broadband and phone 38, electric 70 oil 50, 3 mobiles all SIM only 18, house and car insurance 50, diesel for car 70, so about 476 about altogether, my DH services and repairs our car so just the occasional parts
Another 400 for food including school dinner money basic toiletries and cleaning stuff and a take away a month and weekly coffee or quick lunch, 25 daughters activities; another 50 each spending money ( cinema days trips netflix eating out etc) so 150 and clothes averaged over year about 50-60 between us, presents again another 50 and we don't do big holidays so 40 a month would be ample we are slowly renovating so about £400 a month for this we are mortgage free so 2000 a month is plenty for us and could get it down to 1200 with very tight budgeting
my mother has pension of about 1000K ( mortgage free) which pays all bills food fuel clothes plants coffee out etc, she has savings for house, car repairs, holidays, presents a new car etc

My council tax is Band G and is almost £3,600 a year. Ouch

At the current inflation rate you will need £3000 in about 5 years time to buy what £2000 buys you now. Inflation is making a huge difference when calculating future income needs.

Are you sure you won't get a state pension of any sort? If you claim child benefit for a child under 12 your NI payments will be covered for that time at least.

Your £140 Band A payment is more than all their bands up to Band G. Only Band H is more expensive.
