I have a training course to attend tomorrow. Not going would really screw things up for me at work. Both my 15yr old & my 8yr old have a nasty sore throat & will both need to stay home. The plan would basically be them watching movies & sleeping. Eldest will make them lunch & he's happy to be left with his brother. I know they will be fine but I've having an attack of mum guilt. Wwyd?
(Dad not an option, he's working away.)

the 15 yo can look after an 8 yo surely. Do you really keep them off school for a sore throat?

Depends surely? I have bacterial tonsillitis and can't work so I wouldn't expect anyone to go to school with that! There's a sore throat and then there's a sore throat

What looking after or babysitting does an 8 yo need? All the 15 yo needs to do is dole out hot drinks and medicine at intervals, maybe microwave something for lunch. 8 yo can take himself to the loo/make a snack/operate the tv/otherwise entertain himself - it's not like looking after a toddler.
