Hi There

Me and my family ( two children aged 4 and 6) are currently liiving in spain and have been for the past 10 years. We are moving back to the UK this year and currently deciding where to move to. We are looking at cheshire way (Northwich areas) or North wales ( wrexham area). We are looking at renting a 3 bedroom house near to a good school and not too far from shops, its so hard moving to a new area but the the two biggest factors for us are good schools and a nice area . Any advice from anyone living in these areas would be fantastic.

Thanks in Advance

I’d pick Cheshire, better connected and more going on. I grew up in Tarporley and parents still live there, although it haven’t for about five years. Wrexham was always rough with not many shops. The surrounding areas are nicer but not great shops.

My school in Chester had lots of children coming by bus to go to secondary schools there. You’ve got John Deane Sixth Form College in Northwich although you are some way off sixth form!

I live in Cheshire so no doubt biased but I would avoid Wrexham like the plague. Loads of lovely villages near Chester.

I live in Cheshire (always have) there are some nice areas near/around Chester, Tarporley is lovely (I have cousins there) Nantwich is really nice too.
Any idea on your budget? That might be the limiting factor.
I've never liked Wrexham, personally.

I'm in Staffordshire so close neighbour to Cheshire and I would pick there over Wrexham. Near to Chester all the better.

I live in Cheshire. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Why is that?

IWasFunBeforeMum · 23/05/2022 19:20

There's much better options than both of those! Wrexham isn't nice but little areas just out are ok. Northwich isn't great either. Avoid Winsford and most of middlewich. Chester for the most part is great although avoid Blacon.

Free prescriptions in Wales though!!!

Haybo26 · 23/05/2022 19:22

Wrexham is grim. We went there recently following a hospital appointment. The shopping area was full of druggies and homeless and so many shops boarded up.

KT1342 · 23/05/2022 19:24

I'd go in the middle and say Chester which is lovely if you have the budget. I grew up near Wrexham and it's grim, and I've lived in Northwich which I really didn't like either.

blackheartsgirl · 23/05/2022 19:34

Yes sadly give Wrexham town /city centre a swerve, I live about a mile away in one of the outlying villages and hate having to go there, sadly a once thriving friendly market town has became a haven for druggies and antisocial behaviour. The council has done a lot to destroy its own heritage which will never be reversed.

there are some nice little villages just outside Wrexham (the county is also known as Wrexham) or further into Flintshire.

and we do get free prescriptions lol

Cheshire is naice Wrexham is a bit rough. But there are other options. Have you had a look at Oswestry maybe? Or Shrewsbury?

Another vote for Shrewsbury. I have lived all over the country and keep coming back to Shrewsbury as it's the most beautiful town. So much history and the people are lovely.

MrsKeats · 23/05/2022 21:27

Oh yes Shrewsbury is lovely but it's not in Cheshire so depends how far your radius is.
Christleton is lovely near Chester. Tarporley is v posh. For rural areas Tattenhall and Beeston and the villages in Delamere Forest are nice.

Sharming · 23/05/2022 21:37

Flintshire and Denbighshire (North Wales) are lovely - some lovely towns and good schools. Chester is lovely, as are lots of the village around there.

Depends what you want really - countryside, beaches? City, close to shops?

Sharming · 23/05/2022 21:38

I agree with Shrewsbury too - it's gorgeous!

User478 · 23/05/2022 22:01

Wrexham is up and coming, it's just become a city!

-I wouldn't live there.

There are some nice villages between Chester and Wrexham, I would choose Gresford as you get the benefits of living in Wales but you can be in Chester in 10 mins. There's a direct bus.
