It's my dd's best friends birthday soon and I can't think of what to get him🙊. He'll be 4. Any ideas for a present for about £20 ? I don't really want to give a book/voucher/cash. I would like to give him a nice present if I could. He likes dinosaurs and superheros if that helps. Tia

Lego set? Unless you know he's already in to Lego then I would go for one of the Lego classic sets, whatever fits your budget. That gives some ideas of builds and plenty of bricks for creativity and I good place to start with Lego.

At this time of year probably an outdoor toy. One of those rocket launchers that you stamp on maybe and spend the rest on a book or bathbombs.

Dressing up clothes in his favourite character? Matalan has loads of these :)

I just got this for my nephew. My own kids had a safari themed one of these when they were young. It was one of the only toys they could both play with together for hours and never fall out with each other! We ended up getting 2 sets and the constructions became quite elaborate. We definitely got our moneys worth out of it.

marble run

Big wall calendar with his favorite cartoon characters. Check out www.shutterfly.com/calendars or photo-calendar-software.com/, you can design your own thing there and then do the printing.

I would go retro -;kite, marbles, paper airplane, sweets ,etc a posh goody bag. Kids here loved when I did them as gifts.

Lego set! Either superheroes or Jurassic park is just coming out, so Lego Jurassic park!
superhero costume- check supermarkets
either a superhero figure (Barbie like you, just superhero) or a set of dinosaurs
even a stuffed dinosaur - or there are some cute superhero plushies- pretty sure you can get a decent one for £20

Gave my nephew this at the weekend and he loved it. It got played with constantly for the whole afternoon. Comes in a nice box with a carrying handle. Easy to pack away. (His mum loved it too because of the small amount of space it'll take up when not being used.)

Thank you so much for your suggestions. Much appreciated. @JesusSufferingFuck22 I did think of getting this but with 200 something pieces I was thinking if it'll be a hassle for his mum to be setting up and clearing away. He doesn't strike me as the tidying up type 😊

DS was bought the hey duggee toothbrushing timer for Christmas. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's changed our lives! Even I use it when I'm brushing my teeth for bed 🤣

best toy ever

This one!

Cotswoldmama · 24/05/2022 20:58

Those car tracks are great. The pieces link together in long strips so they won't be individual as such you could have 5 long strips to put away and take out again. I have two boys with a three year age gap and they played with them from about age 3-7.

ElspethBoomingHowsen · 24/05/2022 21:02

My almost 4 year old is completely addicted to play dough, train sets and currently a light up car on a glow in the dark track! Swingball has been a winner too!

justasmalltownmum · 24/05/2022 21:07

I was going to say lego until I saw the comment about the toothbrush.

Both of my DC love lego, but asked for singing toothbrushes for their bdays.

Camomila · 24/05/2022 21:09

On a toothbrush theme...Ds1 has a spiderman electric toothbrush.

Clevs · 24/05/2022 21:13

My 4 year old loves jigsaws, train sets, vehicles (dumper trucks, tractors etc) and Lego.

If it's Paw Patrol, Blippi or Thomas the Tank Engine themed then even better.

redheadmary · 24/05/2022 21:26

A nice Thomas and friends train?
