How much to reset a diamond ring

BourbonBiscuits20 · 21/05/2022 21:42

Has anyone had a diamond on a ring reset? If so how much did it cost?

I have a solitaire diamond ring (0.33ct I think) I'd like to have the diamond set a bit higher.
Looking to see if anyone knows anything about this kind of thing and how much it might cost specifically

I had to have mine repaired and it was a few hundred - so I would expect that sort of region - about 400-500.

What type of metal is it?

You might need a new mount rather than just a reset if you want to change the design - this may need more metal

Thanks for replies, it's platinum.
I'm not sure what the type of setting is called, it's a princess cut diamond and I'd love it raised up more

You will need a new mount made

They will be able to recycle your current band but you will need more platinum to add to it

Then there are labour costs to take into account

I would think a few hundred pounds

I would say £4-500 at a guess. To be honest, there are issues that come with a higher setting... they get caught more often and whacked more often on cupboard doors etc.
However, if you want it higher to match another ring, for example, it is perfectly doable, just fairly labour intensive.

Thanks everyone for responses. I was expecting several hundred from what I'd read online, I asked for a rough estimate in a jeweller as I was passing a while ago and I can't remember the exact figure she gave but I'm sure she said something like 1-2 thousand which is more than the ring is worth! Thought surely that can't be right?!

That sounds a lot! Definitely get a few quotes. I had my platinum ring resized and the price variations were huge. Grace &Co are reasonably priced if you have a branch near you.

She probably didn't want the work , lots of jewellers don't like remakes

This goldsmith does a lot of remodelling work, message him with photos and he'll give you a quote. I've used him before and he is really good www.davidaylinggoldsmith.com/
