Things that are more complicated than they need to be.

I nominate hotel showers. Every time I have to use one, I have the Crystal Maze theme playing in my head while I figure out which combination of knobs and buttons turns the shower on and not the bath taps.

Your nominations?

I have to renew my sons blue badge, on line I know this is going to be more complicated then it should ,be .

RiverSkater · 22/05/2022 10:43

Leaving the house to get anywhere.

It's like a military operation, and I'm just talking about myself. I get so anxious about being late etc. Then I'm halfway there and am convinced I haven't locked the door.

Add kids in and I'm a mess. 😢

Check outs!!!!

  • did you find everything you were looking for today?
  • you want any half price chocolate?
  • do you need a bag?
  • do you want the hanger?
  • have you got a loyalty card? Do you want one?
  • do you want a paper receipt?
  • what's your email address?

Arghhh

Another vote for swimming lessons. It would help if they actually teach the stuff that's on the criteria list for moving up a level... or maybe had assessments once a term or so to pick up a kid in the wrong level. My 10yo thinks she's going to be in stage 5 forever... she can dive, she's ben taught proper breathing in front crawl and breaststroke, she can swim along the bottom of the pool, do somersaults and handstands etc. She can swim more than twice as fast as some of the others in her group. But... she hasn't been assessed on butterfly since January. Its been done once since started at her current pool in October. But she can't move up without that assessment...

And yes, I have complained.

You're lucky. I always seem to get the spotty faces oinks who can barely grunt at you (if you get their attention away from their mobile!).

holdingonfordearlife · 22/05/2022 11:04

Oven settings. No, I don't want to use the pizza setting, or the one that has optimal heat on the top shelf, or the setting without the fan or the one that can be a grill too or the optimal one for heating a casserole.
Also I don't have a degree in astrophysics to help me work out how to set the oven timer on, or change the clock when the clocks go forward an hour.

Same goes for central heating. Why is it so complicated to set the heat to come on for a bit before you wake up in the morning?

FlamingNuts · 22/05/2022 11:08

We have a heating timer control upstairs that no matter what we have tried, we can't adjust the time. It is half an hour out.

Thinking of getting a second Nest thermostat instead.

Crimeismymiddlename · 22/05/2022 11:08

Printing,
Bra sizes-why is there a dd, but on aa, bb and so on?
Booking in people to fix things.

Thethreecs · 22/05/2022 11:17

Ordering dhs RA injections which are only prescribed by hospital . We have to print off order form, go to post office and post to hospital, wait for hospital to send us the prescription, bring prescription to chemist, order injections and as they're high tech they take 3 days to come into chemist, go back to chemist 3 days later to collect. It use to be that he collected prescription at hospital appointments and he'd a choice of bringing it to the chemist himself or they sent it by computer. Not sure who the bright spark was who came up with this shit show.

Opening first bank account for payment of wages when late teens, they need proof of address and 2 utility bills. They also don't accept any headed letters from themselves.

Cans/tins with no ring pull. I can never find the can opener and end up stabbing it with a knife.

Easy or it should be NOT EASY open packets, that knife comes in handy again that I used on the can.

Passwords... Need I say more

BigRedDuck · 22/05/2022 11:19

Printing. I've found my people.

TheChosenTwo · 22/05/2022 11:21

Chiming in to add that I hate SIMS.
Also Excel can fuck off.

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/05/2022 11:23

Can I nominate a second one? Also medical.

Hospital appointments.

I received a letter advising me of time for an x-ray. (Cannot attend as I have physio at the same time at a local clinic which has already been rescheduled due to physiotherapist being off sick).
Ring Hospital as per letter to reschedule. Very nice lady answers the phone. Explain predicament. Says she'll send out a new appointment. I ask if she can do the booking over the phone.

No, not possible. She just takes the enquiry. Someone else makes the booking.
Can I speak to them.?
No. They'll send you a letter.
What if I can't make the next booking, bearing in mind I'm having multiple bookings at 2 NHS sites in 2 separate towns but both in the same health authority.
You'll just have to phone again when you get the new letter.
Arrgh!

midlifecrash · 22/05/2022 11:27

When you need to replace the inside bit of the tap with the washer on it. How are you supposed to work out which ones will fit? Why aren’t they all the same?

and why are there so many different types of fucking lightbulbs.

grapewines · 22/05/2022 11:29

Life

Beat me to it.

Lalupita · 22/05/2022 11:32

Another vote for SIMS. Absolutely awful programme. I only want the take the register for god's sake but I have to wait 5 minutes for it to load and click a hundred buttons to get on my class. And it forces me to make a new password every few weeks. Argh!
And the teachers pension scheme. Why so many different types - career average, final salary, 1/60th, 1/80th, 1/57th. Usually a mix of more than one. Days out, part time years, gaps in service, voluntary contributions. And so many errors I've had to sort!

Inertia · 22/05/2022 11:33

Student loan applications for DC- how the hell am I supposed to remember the details of the account I had with you which was paid up 25 years ago and zero contact since? Can’t reset online, can’t get past security, send a postal letter to explain everything you’ve just said, in triplicate, signed with ink made from the tears of a unicorn…

burnoutbabe · 22/05/2022 11:36

BigRedDuck · 22/05/2022 11:19

Printing. I've found my people.

the day i ditched trying to use home inkjets and get myself a cheap DELL laser was a godsend. Its HUGE but its been fine for 10 years, toners cost £20 for 5 replacements (non-original) and its seen me through a degree and masters where i print EVERYTHING.

I love my printer. i'd save it in a fire BUT ITS HUGE. (was £99)

Inertia · 22/05/2022 11:36

God, SIMS. So slow and clunky it would be quicker to make an appointment with the public records office.

FieryPitOfMordor · 22/05/2022 11:36

Train tickets

crummyusername · 22/05/2022 11:41

Chargers. My house has different leads scattered all around, but can I ever find the one I actually need? Can I f**k.

Justkeeppedaling · 22/05/2022 11:45

Returning items to a shop. Why do they need my address? They didn't ask when I bought the item

BeastOfBODMAS · 22/05/2022 11:45

Setting the clock in a car. I bought a car and the clock was an hour out. No worries, I thought, just wait until the clocks change and at least it will be correct half the year.

Nope. Now it’s two hours out.

MayorDusty · 22/05/2022 11:46

Agree with NHS I've completed levels 1-16 and done two miniboss, at lvl 17 now the Consultants Secretary!

Also my job. It has all the necessary checks and balances but the overlords get jittery and implement tiers of b bureaucracy that are purely for show.

holdingonfordearlife · 22/05/2022 11:50

Scotland here. Applying for young person's scotcard/travel card. So awful. Process took hours. Website crashes, amount of info and ID they require is obscene, and application keeps getting rejected for no good reason.

Similarly HSBC. We have a mortgage account with them. They require ( I've counted) 17 different passwords/pass numbers/favourite pets growing up/verification codes/verification emails/ account numbers/blood of unicorn, back up email just to get into the system.

I tried to set up the app as thought that would be easier, but I can't because the verification paper letter they send me doesn't match the account number, so I'm none the wiser.

Justkeeppedaling · 22/05/2022 11:50

Microsoft Teams.

Oh howI hate it! So many chat threads with different groups of people, and which one has the document in that I was sent to review last week.

It hasn't added anything at all to office life.
