...Well, now my poo is green and my tummy is so bloated it could have its own postcode 🙈 this is why I shouldn't try to be healthy, I felt better beforehand!

How much did you eat? Starting with 1/2 teaspoon in a smoothie and working your way up to a teaspoon is enough.
Try mint for the bloating. A few mint leaves steeped in a cup of boiling water or a mint tea if you have it.

Drink loads of water! Also make sure they are well and truly soaked before you eat them, and start with 10g max per day.

Chia seeds absorb 27 times their own mass in water, I dimly recall....

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 20/05/2022 07:27

You have to soak them first!

I eat huge amounts of chia "porridge" with no problems whatsoever.

WombatNo12 · 20/05/2022 07:32

Yep, a wee sprinkle on a smoothie, yoghurt or porridge.

Acunningruse · 20/05/2022 08:20

I may have overdone it with the sprinkling Blush will soak first in future!

OP, every now and again I try eating healthily. So far I have had all-day painful tummy bloating from too much salad, choked on muesli, and been hospitalised with a head like a pumpkin after eating fresh pineapple (fine with tinned or dried, I had no idea I was allergic!). So my advice is, live on chocolate. Your life may be shorter, but it will certainly be enjoyable!

I'm currently doing the Zoe Nutrition tests. It looks like MaccyD sausage brekkie did nothing (assume it was mostly fats) whilst a glass of milk caused a big spike. A banana, oat, chia seed & kefir smoothie also had a big spike, it's really interesting.

Best place for chia seeds is in the bin!!

Pugfostermum · 20/05/2022 12:37

🤣 soak overnight them you’ll see how much water they absorb! Great for helping you feel full and good protein source though, so don’t give up!

Hermione101 · 20/05/2022 12:39

I add a tablespoon to a smoothie every morning and have zero bloating. Maybe you ate too much?

Beautiful3 · 20/05/2022 13:09

That happened to me too. You have to drink lots of water.

bibliomania · 20/05/2022 13:19

I stir them into yoghurt and leave in the fridge overnight. I like them, but a little goes a long way.

purplesequins · 20/05/2022 13:28

unsoaked chia seeds - great if you have the runs as they expand and soak up excess liquid.

soaked chia seeds - can have the opposite effect due to the amount of fibre.

great in overnight oats

My DH is intolerant to chia seeds (process of elimination took a while) it can happen!
