So incessantly noisy here!!! Am assuming It's loads of starlings we have nesting close by but the noise is so shrill and unpleasant.

Anyone with bird knowledge who can educate me? Why so noisy and for how much longer? And don't even get me started on the crap over cars/windows....

House swap. You can listen to the traffic.

There will be a lot of young birds at the moment, all shrieking for food, and the adults are naturally territorial and shouting about it. It's a busy time of year for them. In summer, they'll moult and go quiet for a few weeks while they grow new feathers.

Nesting bird season. Starts in March, ends in august (officially but birds do nest outside of this). Birds are finding and defending territories, mates and nests.

I was woken up by noisy birds a couple of days ago, I don't remember that happening here before (and I've lived here for 9 years!)

The birds are noisy fuckers at this time of year. I have a fan in my bedroom to provide white noise as a counterbalance. If you live rurally though that may not be enough. In my suburban setting, it is, but where my DPs like (very rural), I'd need AC/DC playing to block the noisy little bastards out!

Would you rather hear traffic and people and planes?

I was not expecting so many people to hate birdsong.

I wonder if the birds want humans to shut up their noise, cars, trains, buses building work, road building

I expect the birds find humans very noisy and annoying too.

It must be mad starling day - we commented earlier how loud they were. Don’t mind it though.

Oh my god!!! Honestly starlings actually have a stunning vocal range and their own dialects!!

birdsong is amazing, can’t bear people that are so horrible about it.

We can swap. I have a loud protest going on two streets over (4m population in big European capital so I’ll let you imagine the size of it), cars and buses competing to see who can blow their horn the loudest, and my annoying neighbours lovely restaurant owners downstairs who think a mix of techno and 00’s rock is what people want to listen to all evening long. I’m not even making this shit up. Give me birds any day over this.

We commented how loud the birds are this year. I love it.

Is it possible for you to see any of the shouty birds, OP? Sometimes it's interesting to see what they're actually making a noise about. A predatory magpie checking out young birds in nests, maybe. One time there was a huge commotion outside and I looked out to see just two sparrows, male and female. They were running around in circles because he was trying to mate with her and she was refusing. They looked very silly. It made me wonder what their shrieks meant and I smiled to see the female giving the male what for. You tell him, luv!

Loop earplugs!! Okay I spend too much time on bloody tiktok but I fell for the marking hype and got some and they've been brilliant. Birds happily singing, me not hearing a damn thing: perfect!

I love it because it reminds me of lockdown, the happiest I've ever been.

Starlings are brilliant and in huge decline, you might not feel it. But your very lucky.

watch some videos of them beatboxing and their mumurations. They are fascinating, but yes. Very noisey.

Don't worry, in a few weeks their batteries will run down :)

Would you like some budgies? I've a broody hen.
They're particularly keen on joining in on zoom calls.

I love them. Sound of nature, even it's noisy, is lovely, imo.
I have seen baby starlings and baby sparrows today. Made my day.
It won't be long, I assume. They grow up pretty quick.

I work from home some days and on a lovely day like today I have the back door open all day so I can hear them. Love the sound especially starlings.
