Contract has a 3 month notice period. I haven’t started yet. Will I have to work for them for 3 months before leaving? 😭

I have logged out of my email account and intend to stay logged out for a few days now. Before the HR manager replied to my queries in about 10 minutes flat so the change is unsettling. I need to stop imagining that they are plotting anything though.

They aren't plotting, but to be fair you've caused them a fair bit of hassle as they were most likely well on their way to getting you set up/sorting out onboarding etc and now they need to start again with recruitment

You will get an email, but you won't be a priority as that will be sorting out re-recruiting, so it may take a few days

I had that once years ago. It was in a school, they required a terms notice (not teaching).

Day after I’d signed contract something awful
happened in my personal life which meant I couldn’t take any job at that point and had to have been signed off by the dr from the notice I was working at the company I’d resigned from at the time. I called them and told them I couldn’t start.

The school business manager told
me I had to start and I had to give a terms notice, so I would have to work the term.

I told her I would wait for her to come and
drag me out my house on September 5th then and hold me prisoner in the school office (it was a horrific personal situation that had unfolded, I’d been polite up to that point, but she was insistent that I had to start the job and I ran out of patience).

Never heard from them again.

I work for a company that has everyone on 3 months notice, and they will sue if you leave before the end of the 3 months, purely out of principle that if they didn't everyone would leave sooner.

They have never bothered about anyone who hasnt actually started, even though they get them to sign the contract the minute they accept the job.
