What I don't understand about energy prices...

I do understand the reason for the increase in gas and oil prices. However, my electricity supplier proudly boasts that all my electricity is from renewable sources, so why is the price of my electricity affected by the increase in gas and oil?

Basically, there is actually no way if knowing whether your energy is green or not once it joins the grid. All the green tariff stuff is marketing nonsense really.
