So I have a manky fucking toenail with a fungus. Went to the podiatrist this afternoon, I have type 1 diabetes, as well as other autoimmune conditions, and have to be careful with my feet. Thankfully the rest of the toe is very healthy with no skin infection, but after trying with over the counter treatments for month I need something that will work.
The podiatrist was knowledgable about diabetes which always helps and at first I was relieved as he said the toe is quite mild. He prescribed a topical treatment.
But then he filed some of the nail down with an electric file thing - without putting on gloves. He touched the other toes on the foot as he was explaining stuff.
Now I am really upset because surely the powder from the filings will have spread the fungal infection around pretty liberally? I had no choice but to put on my shoes and socks to get home - so will all this powdered fungal matter now probably infect the other toes?
I have been so careful of cross contamination when dealing with this foot and now so upset I've fucked up with this. I have numerous health issues and am so weary and burnt out with it the thoughts of more problems are making this a big deal for me.
Also wondering if he didn't wear gloves that means the overall hygiene of the place is shit.
Would you be concerned by this too or am I sensitive due to all my shitty health experiences?
