Do I need a tetanus jab after horse bite?

This morning my horse decided my finger was a carrot and tried to crunch it, hard!

It didn't really break the skin much at all, two very small breaks in the skin. Weirdly it's not even that swollen but is mega painful and I can't feel the tip of my finger...I can move it normally though.

Just wondering if I need to get a tetanus booster?

Depends how many doses you’ve had. You only need 5 in total and you are, seemingly, covered for life. You should have had the last one in high school but I suppose it depends on your age.

can you phone the GP practice and ask them to get the nurse to check your vaccination record? They should be able to have a quick look and give you a ring back to let you know.

Just ring your GP to check. If you work outside/with animals you should be fine as you've probably had the recommended amount but best to check

I'd seek medical advice. Even if you're up-to-date with your vaccinations, it might be worth getting an immunoglobulin injection. Some animal bites make you more prone to contracting tetanus and its not worth the risk for the sake of a jab.

I've got an appointment for tomorrow evening. I assume that is soon enough?

Yes, you'll be fine with that

Thanks. A bit concerned I still can't feel the end of my finger!
