Am I crazy to worry this could be leukaemia? Frequent fevers in two year old plus other things…

I’m getting a bit worried about my two year old. I posted another thread to ask if it was normal to get poorly so much after starting nursery, but I’ve just realised he’s had episodes of high temp four times since the first of March up until now (currently in the middle of one and on antibiotics). He had Covid in Feb so I don’t know if this has also knocked his immune system.

Hes also had an on off cough since the back end of April that went away and has come back again (I thought it was due to teething this time as his back molars are coming through and he’s really dribbly) and is on an iron supplement for low iron. He does get bruises but usually after an obvious tumble on his scooter etc so nothing mysterious.

Recently he has learned the word “hurts” and he’s using it a lot - He has been saying his tummy hurts recently and his leg hurts (leg he’s mentioned it once or twice but no trouble walking or running about at all) so I can’t tell if it’s a proper hurt or a little knock or if it even hurts at all as sometimes he will use it retrospectively. He’s a bit tired at the moment, most likely from having almost back to back infections but is still
playing, running, asking to get out of the pushchair all the time.

the doctor recently listened to his chest and did bloods to check his iron and said his haemoglobin was fine, wasn’t concerned about anything else and said his iron isn’t worryingly low just lower than he would like to see. He also examined his tummy and felt
for lymph nodes around his groin - nothing of concern.

I recently read about childhood leukaemia so it’s planted the seed in my head, I suffer from health anxiety so am often gripped by worst case scenarios and find it hard to be rational!

My 2 yo has been the same since starting nursery a year ago, in fact earlier in the year they suggested we see the GP about her fevers as she gets them so frequently and easily, it was ridiculous at one point. Things have died down a lot the last couple of months and she’s only been ill a couple of time's.

I hope the GP can be reassuring.

Thank you, I’ve confirmed that he had a full blood count and that the only thing flagged was the iron level was low but only slightly. Only recommendation is to continue on as we are.

which has helped!
but then he randomly started limping before bed 🙈 I’m going to keep an eye on him and will go back to the GP if these random things continue, I think he’s realised he can do a lot of things (tip toe, limping, jumping, trying to hop) so it’s not necessary a limp from pain. I’m just noticing everything with an eagle eye now!

thanks for all the reassuring posts and to those who have been faced with leukaemia I hope your loved ones are recovering or
recovered now.
