Anyone else call their parents this?

I've just started chatting to a guy OLD and he says this. It's not a regional thing here (Manchester).

Ok well he is coming across as a "professional" Mancunian. Anyone who lives here will know exactly what I mean.

Given pretentiousness is about pretending to be something g greater or better than you are, I don't think working class accents count.

That's quite a snobbish view. Maybe some people think pretending to be more working class than they are gives them credibility.

You are saying that upper / middle class is greater or better than working class (in your opinion).

It the context of pretentiousness, yes. I should have done "better" not better, as in perceived social hierarchy rather than I think my middle class friend is a better and more important human than me.
