Tell me about your smart, comfy closed-toe sandals

Summer is here, and I'm on the train to work with bare legs for the first time this year, in my well loved closed toe sandals (Josef Siebel) that are a few years old, and looking shabby. I've been browsing the web for replacements. I have a 30 minute walk at the end of the train line, so need something comfortable, as well as cool and smart.

I prefer not to have to change shoes when I arrive, if possible. I dislike open toed sandals because my toes are best hidden. I've tried FitFlop and Sketchers unsuccesfully and just about to check out Josef Siebel too, but are there any other brands you would recommend that might fit the bill?

Hopeful bump.

I've got Fitflop Cova sandals. They have an enclosed toe (they do a peep toe as well) and a sandal-y back. They're comfy, as you expect from Fitflops. I'm not allowed open toe as I work on an industrial site. Seem to have got away with these though!

Birkenstock clogs?

Would something like this work?

I'm amazed at the lack of choice in closed toe options for summer. Every year I hope to find something comfy that isn't hideous!

MakingNBaking · 17/05/2022 16:47

I have Fitflop Cova too, in the black with slight sparkle. I find them very comfortable but they may be a little flat for work depending on the job.
My other go-tos are Pikolinos.

MakingNBaking · 17/05/2022 16:49

I also have a pair of closed toe black canvas wedge sandals which are surprisingly comfy, those were Tescos I believe.

Riverlee · 17/05/2022 17:08

When I saw your thread, I immediately thought of Josef Seibel.

I particularly like the Rosalie 13 (and have brought in different colours over the years).

Reiker is another brand I like.

Juancornetto · 17/05/2022 17:34

I bought the Fitflop Covas in black from Amazon last year. Love them - they're so comfy!

trainbrain · 17/05/2022 18:41

Great, thanks everyone. Riverlee, those Josef Siebel ones look very similar to the ones I have. Love them.

I've also spotted some chunky black fisherman's sandals at Office. They have their own brand at £55 and a couple of Vagabond styles for £120, so I'm trying to decide which to go for. Seems like a nobrainer, as they look almost identical, but if I"m going to do a 30 minute walk in them every day in bare feet, they do need to be comfy. 🙃

😲 Why are they all so frickin' ugly?!

Come on shoe designers, sharpen your pencils & give us something pleasing on the feet AND the eye!

THIS!

Luckily I just change when I get to work- flats usually so fit nicely in my bag.

IsThisRealLife12 · 17/05/2022 19:31

Why does style and aesthetic have to be so heavily compromised for comfort!!?

TravellingSpoon · 17/05/2022 19:45

Are the fitflop ones okay for wider feet?

Not sure, but I find Fitflop fit quite small. I'm normally an 8 but need a 9 with Fitflop.

These Birkenstocks might be good for wide feet though: www.birkenstock.com/gb/tokio-natural-leather/tokio-core-naturalleather-0-evarubbersupergrip-u_19.html. I like them, but have gone with the Vagabond fisherman shoes in the end.

Yes, I've got really wide feet and they're one of the few styles I can wear comfortably

Juancornetto · 18/05/2022 07:32

... That's to the Fitflop/wide feet question

Agree with this.
There are so few closed toe sandals that aren't hugely clumpy with vast swathes strapping and buckles.
I want to hide my big toe, I'm not looking for something to actually keep my entire foot fixed onto my leg with industrial scaffolding.

Love my Josef Siebels, so comfortable.

What about these:

SweetSakura · 18/05/2022 08:06

Saltwater have some closed toe sandals too

PAFMO · 18/05/2022 08:53

See! The Saltwaters are a case in point. Ordinary Saltwaters are so pretty. The closed toe ones have a chunky blocky wide band weave then an ugly extra band covering the toe!
Why couldn't they just extend the classic style to go over the toe?

Elsewhere, I was looking at the huarache style sandals, but not sure how comfortable they are, or clogs. But I'll probably end up wearing my fitflop Rally trainers or Covas like I invariably do.

trainbrain · 18/05/2022 20:14

Ooh, thanks, I do like those Saltwater sandals. And, unlike every other site I've looked at, they had a "Closed Toe" filter on their sesrch criteria too. Seems obvious, but missing elsewhere.
