A level choices Biology instead of Physics

Posted about DD2 doing A - levels to go on to do engineering a while ago and got some really useful advice so I am back 😀

She is now definitely doing maths, product design and economics and was going to do physics too but doesn't really want to!! She is down to do it but if she changes it, would like to replace it with another science.

She says she would prefer to do biology instead. Other science options are chemistry or environmental science but she is not keen on those either. I like the look of environmental science but DD has turned her nose up at that and says it is a subject that is not as valuable as other sciences.

Her heart is not set on engineering tbh although she is still interested but I am just wondering if biology goes with maths and her other subjects...... the only other options are politics, history or PE...... it's so hard to decide when she doesn't really know what she wants to do in the future.........

Any advice for her?

does UCAS or someone offer a tool where candidate can enter a-level choices and the tool says which specific Uni courses, or even which generic courses, would normally be available to someone who took those a-levels? Seems like such a basic tool to help students choose their A-levels. Must exist?

My daughter is doing her AS levels at the minute - she picked 4 for A-levels and will drop one after these exams (she thinks). She's doing Maths, Geography, Tech and Design and Politics. She originally was doing Physics but about a month in she lost a bit of confidence in her ability and dropped it. There was a big jump for her from GCSE Physics to A-level. She picked Politics out of the blue and has absolutely loved it, would do it all day and she's not a natural essay writer. It has been a brilliant subject for her. I think she always thought she'd only keep it up for the first year but she's continuing with it and dropping Tech and Design, again she found the jump from GCSE to A level hard with it.
She has spent ages looking at University courses etc, they do it in school - LLW.

We are loving the whatuni.com website here! DD1 has now got 5 unis to do languages! Grin and is really enjoying looking at different options.

DD2 is also pretty good at history and really enjoys it but the A level curriculum doesn't look much fun.

Think Physics is out the window - like PP said, the jump is big from gcse to A-level, isn't it and if she's not enjoying now then she's unlikely to at the next level.
