What is this heinous bug and does anyone else have it?

Obviously they do, someone gave it to us. But Jesus it’s grim and going on for ages.

DD got chesty cough, v high temp for days, streaming cold. Temp now gone but constantly rattling, wheezing and snotting.

I’ve got it, lost my voice, hacking cough, same cold, massive glands, aching all over.

DH got it today, feels and looks like shit and losing his voice. No one’s slept well in 10 days, last night I got about 3 hours.

It’s May ffs, what’s going on? Haven’t had a cold this bad in years and it’s levelled me.

All got negative LFTs.

I haven't had it but know a few people who have so its in my locality. It sounds really nasty and more like flu than a cold. A colleague went to bed for three days and needed five days off work. She's had covid twice and worked through it so this must be really bad. I'm back to manic hand washing and social distancing because of an underlying illness.

Get well soon.

x2boys · 16/05/2022 10:49

Yep I'm going into my second week with it ,I'm a lot better than I was but I can't get rid of this cough.

Ohmych · 16/05/2022 10:50

That sounds like I was before I tested positive on a lateral flow. It was about 5 days after symptoms started that I got a positive.

I came down with this last Wednesday; have done three Covid tests, all negative. Was up all night sweating before the horrendous sore throat (got antibiotics from GP that morning and am still taking them). The cold is ridiculous, I don't remember having one like this before. I started taking Sudafed tablets on Saturday due to blocked nose. Have completely lost my appetite (very unusual for me!) but have been forcing myself to eat what I can. The cough is very slowly subsiding, but the all-over aching / feeling and looking like cr*p / lack of sleep are continuing. It's awful :( Hope you feel better soon.

meloncolic · 16/05/2022 10:57

Same here! It is grim!

AnneLovesGilbert · 16/05/2022 11:04

Sorry other people are suffering. It’s so shit. Poor DD is 3 and she’s been so good natured about it but the lack of sleep as we’re all coughing like mad if we try and lie down is wearing extremely thin.

I tested DD and me over a week ago and me again last night, def negative. And does feel like more than a cold but I haven’t had a bad cold since I was pregnant so wasn’t sure if I was being pathetic.

I haven’t had a temp but DD was waking every day for over a week with a really high one and these massive glands are awful.

Completely lost my appetite too, lost a couple of lbs which isn’t a bad thing but managed to make a bland veg soup yesterday which will keep us ticking over.

Hammering strepsils and lemon and honey drinks.

Thanks for listening to me moan, hope you’re all better soon.

Omicron is presenting very much like a bad cold for many people. I have it at the moment. It’s been sore throat, fever (only mild), coughing and nasal congestion (which started as a runny nose). I’d put it at bad cold level rather than mild flu but I often get a fever with a cold so wasn’t too worried by it.

If Covid wasn’t a thing it’s almost identical to many bad colds I’ve had before.

I got PCR tested (not in the UK) so can’t help with how it behaves with LFTs.

bluetongue · 16/05/2022 11:24

Forgot to add my appetite is pretty low and I’m usually someone who is ravenous all the time,

NightmareSlashDelightful · 16/05/2022 11:26

I had this, or something like it, the week before last. Definitely not covid, I was tested to the nth degree for about 10 days.

My theory is that because we have all been somewhat shut away (to a greater or lesser extent) over the last couple of years, our immune systems are less fighting fit than they otherwise would have been.

Blogdog · 16/05/2022 11:28

Reading this in bed with the same bug! It’s been 5 years since I was last so ill I couldn’t get out of bed. The muscle aches are unbearable. I’ve had it since Friday and have tested negative for Covid every day so I guess it’s just old fashioned flu. It’s horrible.

TerryChoc · 16/05/2022 11:35

My 2 year old had this and it’s creeping it’s way to me. He was that poorly I rang doctors and they suggested a&e. They gave antibiotics which he’s had with little resolve initially, think he just started getting better as it was going. Not excited for it to hit me fully.

AnneLovesGilbert · 16/05/2022 11:59

Good luck Terry. It’s taken DH 10 days to succumb. Hope DS fully better soon.

I’d be in bed if I didn’t have DD to look after. She’s with my mum for the morning which is amazing and has given me a chance to wallow, shower and change the sheets.

I’m completely deaf in one ear and now have full face ache so it’s just going to be a pile of crap and I’ve cancelled anything on this week.

Unexpected weight loss may be the only upside.

Yes i've had it. Went on for three weeks. Ok for two weeks then back again. A week later snd I'm positive with no symptoms and feeling better than I have in 8 weeks. Lfts were neg throughout

PipeScatter · 16/05/2022 12:12

Massive glands was a symptom in two female friends/relatives recently who later tested positive on a lateral flow test.

I'm just getting over an awful cold, having had Omicron in January.

I have to say, the cold was worse!

PipeScatter · 16/05/2022 12:13

Oh, and my DF ended up with a raging ear infection after contracting Covid too. Took two prescriptions of antibiotics to finally clear it up.

Hate to say it OP, but in my recent experience of others with Covid, it sounds like you might have it.

I hope you feel better soon.

LeeMucklowesCurtains · 16/05/2022 19:00

Yup.

We have had it in our house. Me, 20 month old and 8 year old had it for a week days. It was miserable. I’ve not had a sore throat like that in years, but luckily that only lasted two days.

We are finally over it the last day or two.

LeeMucklowesCurtains · 16/05/2022 19:02

We have LFTs left over from care home visits, I tested myself a few times and was negative. They lit up like christmas trees for me when I did have covid, so I trust them.

Cliftontherocks · 16/05/2022 19:04

Have you lft ?

could be that we have no immunity to colds or flu right now or

Littlegoth · 16/05/2022 19:14

No one has any immunity at the moment due to 2 years of pandemic and dousing ourselves with antibac. My little boy (20 months) ended up in hospital with this two weeks ago, as did my friend’s 7 year old and my 78 year old neighbour. The children’s ward were full of kids with the same issue, instead of getting just one bug we are getting 3, 4, 5 at the same time. I had something similar in September (not covid, which I got 2 months later and was actually not as bad) and I had a raging sore throat for 3 weeks, just awful. Hope everyone who has this feels better soon.

NamelessNancy · 16/05/2022 19:21

I've been like that since the middle of last week. Lat flow negative then and at the weekend but I took another today and strong positive.
