Does anyone get tummy issues after eating eggs?

I do already have IBS so I have a super sensitive digestive system but I have noticed recently that am getting really bloated, gassy with load grumbling/growling/bubbling guts, excessive gas and feel really quite nauseous after eating anything with egg in it or eggs on their own.
I tend to eat the same foods because of my IBS. I normally make tuna/sweetcorn myself using vegan mayo but today, for speed, I had some Tesco ready made tuna/sweetcorn which was a regular, egg-based mayonnaise.
This evening I feel awful. I have a really bloated tummy with gas, tummy making the most awful gurgling noises and I feel really queasy. Last time I felt this bad was a couple of months ago after I had eaten some poached eggs, I haven’t touched egg since.
Obviously it’s not an allergy as I haven’t experienced any allergic type symptoms but I wonder if it’s some kind of intolerance?
Does anyone else get this with eggs?

Never with eggs, even those where they almost, but not quite, failed the float test.

Other things yes, but not eggs.

makeitallgoaway · 15/05/2022 21:38

Yup exactly what you describe although not in small quantities like mayo, just if I eat the equivalent of a whole egg like in an omelette or quiche.

I get symptoms exactly like this when I eat duck eggs. Hen eggs are fine, just duck eggs.

I did for about 6 years, which was highly annoying as I loved eggs! I always blamed it on an omelette I had on holiday as it was the first time I felt like it, exactly as you described.
strangely after getting pregnant with DS1 it improved , sadly it gives DS2 bad wind/bloated and as he's EBF I have had to give them up again 😔

MagneticRubberDucks · 15/05/2022 21:47

Yes, even the smallest amount of Mayo on a burger or in a sandwich affects me,
I get the gas and the gurgling exactly as you describe.

if I were to eat something with a lot of mayonnaise or a whole egg is would give me a really upset stomach and I’d be bloated and gassy with a uncomfortable gurgling stomach for a day.

it’s an intolerance to the protein in egg yoke for me (I had it tested)

glebaisaword · 15/05/2022 21:47

Yeah but only certain types of eggs. For me well fried is fine, could have 2 with no issues at all. Quiche, scrambled (only if very well done) or egg mayo, I can have just a tiny bit. Omelette only if a small thin one, but poached no frickin way!

Thanks all, glad to know it’s not just me. Weird how how some can eat them cook one way but not another. It’s a real shame as I love eggs obviously they no longer love me! My dad is iffy with them and my Nan was too so I wonder if it’s some strange family trait thing going on?
MagneticRubberDucks where did you get tested? I would like to do this to know for sure as my diet is already really restricted due to my IBS, I don’t want to keep avoiding various foods. I did the Yorktest a few years ago and it show up eggs on the red ‘avoid’ section but I have since heard it isn’t a particular scientific test?

Yes fried eggs do this to me. Luckily I dont much like fried eggs.
Egg mayo , more than a tablespoon, boiled egg cant even eat, oddly though poached is just fine.

There was this exact thread last week and lots of people agreed.

Yes, I used to before I had my gallbladder removed due to gallstones. My consultant told me eggs are a well known trigger for setting off attacks.

Princesselsa1 · 15/05/2022 23:41

yup this is me. Sick feeling, bloating, upset tummy.

CherryRipe1 · 16/05/2022 00:01

Yes. Dreadful wind and burping, also reflux especially if I eat non free range. Same with gluten & non filtered milk.

MrsDThomas · 16/05/2022 07:10

Yes! Absolutely fine eating eggs but cold hard boiled or an omelette is a no-no. I need the toilet nearby.

happystory · 16/05/2022 07:59

Funnily enough, mine developed after having my gall bladder out. I can eat egg white but the yolk gives me terrible cramps

bobisbored · 16/05/2022 16:59

Yes! But not all the time. Weirdly if I eat egg first thing in the morning I will often end up running to the loo (cramps and diarrhoea) but I can tolerate egg at other times of day. I don't know if it's an empty stomach thing. Annoying because I love egg!

nearlyspringyay · 16/05/2022 17:02

I['ve never been able to eat eggs. Puked as a baby, now get issues as you describe. Also have IBS.
