Tell me about your long commute

Next month I will start my dream job - but the office is about 80 miles away and we can't relocate for another 18m or so. I'm already an Audible member and love podcasts too. Tell me how you pass the time, please! I will be driving and it will take about 75 mins as it's almost all motorway.

I know someone who chats by Bluetooth to her mum or her sister when she does her commute. I'm audible all the way though

I used to do this for a few years 3x per week. You do get used to it. There's not much you really can do with needing to stay alert for the road. I always found I would lose the thread of what was going on with podcasts or audio books a bit too much as the road would take my attention away from the audio sporadically. You might be different though. I just liked to find regular radio shows I liked the music and dj or subject matter and just relax into that. With having small kids i really enjoyed the alone time! My husband in a similar job got very into radio 4 but I would have been falling asleep to that on a long drive.

Today in the morning, pm on the way home. Did it for 9 months became incredibly well informed. Also listened to Harry Potter.

No radio 4 - I am not in the UK.

Tell me your favourite podcasts please!

What genre of podcast interests you? Comedy? True Crime? Cults? Scams? Fiction?

Invest in a car with supportive seats. And incorporate stretches into your day, it’ll help when your legs start seizing up. Yoga is good if you don’t already do it.

I don’t envy you, I did a commute like that for a while once and it broke me.

Have a 90+ mile commute 2-4 times a week, with an early start (leaving home at 2:30am) and a late finish (home at 10pm) but maybe because of exhaustion I enjoy the silence of the drive. It’s good thinking time, reflecting etc. Get good ideas this way. Can you share any of the journeys (in part or full?) with another person?

I have a similar journey to work 4 days a week. I always bring a travel mug of tea or coffee and a snack, I go between audible, music or podcasts and make family chat calls on the way home. Sometimes the silence is nice as well esp after a 14 hr shift.
It is long time sat down in one position so I also try to go for a walk on my coffee and lunch break.
