WTF is on the bottom of the plate in this BBC news story?
Any fish and chipper that serves a turd on the plate should be closed down IMHO!

It looks like a turd gherkin

SoggyPaper · 15/05/2022 09:26

Is it a gherkin?

LakeFlyPie · 15/05/2022 09:49

Ahh, I'm up north and we have mushy peas not gherkins with our chippy tea!

I'm northern and we deffo don't have gherkins with our chippy. Although I do love them!
I went to Suffolk and they serve gherkins at chippys and they call them wallys! Also the chippies down south are mad expensive.

Sirzy · 15/05/2022 10:12

A chippy near here has a jar of gerkins (again up north) I am pretty sure it’s purely decorational!

mum2jakie · 15/05/2022 10:14

Gherkin with fish and chips!?! They deserve to go out of business!!

MayorDusty · 15/05/2022 10:15

They don't even have scraps down South.

I know levelling up is all the rage just now but I think we should tread with caution.

Workinghardeveryday · 15/05/2022 10:23

Hold the phone - no scraps down south? Really. WTAF.

Gherkin with F&Cs? That’s disgusting, bad enough they try to sneak them in a BigMac…

TuTuLemon · 15/05/2022 10:25

Gherkins with fish and chips?? Whatever next!

I agree about expensive!

Treated husband my 2 primary aged girls to a chippy as a treat and it cost £36 😳
2 large cod & chips, 2 bartered sausages and another chips, bloody crazy!

Op it's a gerkin 🤣 in it' true form, not sliced as per McDonald's

Wally with fish and chips is a surprisingly good combo.

PollyDarton2 · 15/05/2022 10:29

I’m from the south, mushy peas here all the way, not sure who the fuck is having a gherkin with their fish and chips.

I’m afraid to say I don’t know what “scraps” refers to. (Running to duck and cover.)

We have 'gribbles' in the South West, I reckon that's the same as 'scraps'.

MayorDusty · 15/05/2022 10:30

And if you ask for fish, chips, peas and gravy they give you the gravy separate in a pot.
As though you're the weird one wanting gravy with it. 🙄 * *

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 15/05/2022 10:35

The acid in the gherkin cuts through the fat. Delicious! I prefer the little ones though, the big ones are a bit watery and not as crisp we're not talking about willies here

foxlover47 · 15/05/2022 10:35

A turd 😂😂😂😂that has made me laugh this morning !
I'm southern and always get a pickled gherkin ( Wally ) served on the side ... you can even add a pickled egg though I'm
Not that adventurous

SkiingIsHeaven · 15/05/2022 10:35

It looks like one of those repulsive sausages that some chippies sell.

Eggshausted · 15/05/2022 10:45

In South London, you can get scraps/crackling. Just wish we could find a chippy that does spam fritters. The ready made ones you can buy just don’t cut it…

Gymnopedie · 15/05/2022 13:26

But you have tartare sauce with fish, and that's predominantly gherkins and mayo. Fellow northener here too.

The mixing together to make a sauce makes all the difference. 🤣

LakeFlyPie · 15/05/2022 20:41

I'm a gherkin fan and all for trying one with my fish and chips. Would prefer one that's less turd like though
