Constant uti - doctor said something about std?!!!

Right, since Tuesday I’ve had the worst stomach pain I’ve ever had. My stomach has literally been burning and I have been vomiting every night. Last night I was vomiting blood. So spoke to 111 who said to go to a&e.

I have been there today and was seen by the doctor who made me do urine sample and felt my tummy. He said I’ve got a nasty uti infection and gastritis.

However, he mentioned about getting checked for a std. I said there’s no way, I’ve been in a relationship with the same man for nearly 6 years and if I do have a std he’s been cheating on me. The doctor said I don’t want to put anything in your head but if may be worth getting checked out.

so I came home told my partner who has assured me he hasn’t slept with anyone. But I can’t stop thinking about it and I’m worried.

since having my little boy 3 years ago I have had many uti’s which I have been on antibiotics for but they alwaysssss come back!
is having many uti’s a sign of a std?!

has anyone experience anything similar and can give me some reassurance please 😩

UTIs are absolutely horrific so you have my sympathy there.

Going back several years an ex (this was the final straw) passed chlamydia on to me.

I had UTIs recurring but as it progressed I had blood in my urine, the worst pains I've ever had, vomiting, nothing eased the pain and I didn't leave the bathroom.

GP like you gave advice that I get tested and gave me antibiotics. Tests confirmed quickly and I was given a weeks course of antibiotics plus strong painkillers.

However there are no doubt many causes of repeated UTI but for peace of mind I would get checked otherwise it will stay at the back of your mind.

I got checked and never told ex until afterwards.

If you’ve been advised by a doctor to get tested, do it. No-one on here knows you or your partners sexual history but you need to rule out the possibility of a sti.

Even if it is an STD, you may have had it for a long time in your system with no symptoms - so it doesn’t necessarily mean DH has cheated OP. Finding out could cure you though!

No it isn't a sign of one but the symptoms cross over quite a bit. What is the harm in being tested to rule it out? I don't think there's any need to take it as a personal slight or big deal at all, though you have my full sympathy. I'm prone to chronic gastritis and UTI and both are bloody awful. Google gastritis diets (not a weight loss thing) to help the digestive tract heal.
Has the GP or A&E offered any guidance on reasons why you are having so many UTI's or why you have gastritis? Have you got meds for it? I'd be asking for further investigations if this is a recurrent situation.

Couple of years ago I had recurring UTIs, I also then got recurring thrush due to the constant antibiotics I was taking due to the UTI’s. It was a vicious cycle and was getting me down, having an impact on everything. I was told to get tested at the sexual health clinic also but everything came back negative. In the end I was giving medication (can’t remember if they were antibiotics now) for about 6 weeks and luckily it all stopped and touch wood I’ve had nothing since. Except the fear of it coming back 🤣

not sure if helpful to you, but just wanted to give some reassurance it might not be anything to worry about (in terms of the STDs).

Definitely get checked if only for peace of mind.

@dontgobaconmyheart No they unfortunately haven’t given me any guidance as to why I have gastritis or the ongoing uti’s! I’ve never had gastritis before and know nothing about it! So no idea why or how is happened. Will be doing some research on it tonight I think.

they have given me a weeks course of cefalexin for the uti and a months worth of omeprazole for the gastritis.
