Home or LL insurance help!

We moved in with my grandma when I was a teenager and my mum eventually became her carer. My grandma is now in a care home full time and I've since moved out but my mums home is still the same house, which is in my grandma's name.

My mum has financial poa.

The last couple of years, she's been paying for LL insurance instead of home insurance, which is what saga insisted on. However the dont think this is right.

My mum is not a tenant, it's the family home.

The house insurance is now up for renewal, can anyone advise on whether home insurance or LL insurance is the correct policy please?

Who owns the house?

I’m a landlord and landlord insurance generally only covers the building and fixed items such as in bathrooms or a fitted kitchen. It is the tenants responsibility to insure their contents.

I don’t know the legalities but technically your Mum is not a tenant but then again she doesn't own the property either.

You need to check exactly what the current policy covers as typical landlord insurance doesn’t cover contents although you can add this as an option when I’ve done mine so it might have been added.

What I’d do is call a few other insurance companies, explain the facts and see what their advice is then you’ll know whether Saga’s is right or not?
