Breastfeeding: how long does yours stay latched per feed?

as above.. how long does your baby feed for? I read 45minutes around about. But my 6 week old seems to only feed for about 10-20 minutes then go anywhere from 2-4 hours before wanting more- then will have a feed for about 20 minutes before being out down then doesn’t wake until 5-6am.

I feel like he must be getting enough because he’s not interested if I try and keep him on longer or offer more any less than a couple hours later. But it feels like he’s not on gif very long so isn’t getting enough?

Sounds perfect! My baby would feed for 10 minutes tops, every 3-4 hours for the first few months. She was just a very efficient feeder, saw the boob as food rather than dummy/comfort and always had better things to do 😁her weight gain was fantastic though so that’s how I knew it was fine.

Mine doesn't feed for that long but that's ok if they are "efficient feeders". Mine feeds with a lot of enthusiasm and then is done! It's not just the length of time that counts. She is 7 weeks and in 3-6 month clothes.

If baby seems well and nappy output good try not to worry.

If they're putting on weight with lots of wet and dirty nappies then I'd say they have got a good efficient latch and no worries.
If weight / nappies are a concern I'd speak to HV

Thanks! That’s put me at ease a bit. He hasn’t been weighed since a couple weeks old and there was no concerns then, he’s due to be weighed in a couple weeks but Im sure he’s getting chunkier so no obvious concerns! Nappies are always good. Phew!

My 12 day old feeds between 10-15 minutes every 2-4 hours depending on his mood. He comes off the minute he's done!
