Having the MMR jab as an adult - side effects?

Am due to have my MMR jab later this afternoon.

Has anyone else had it as an adult and what have the side effects been like?

DH has had to have all his childhood vaccinations again (stem cell transplant). No side effects at all!

I had it at 38! They'd found, during my pregnancy with DD when I was 37, that the immunity from my childhood vaccinations had worn off. So I had to have the MMR after delivery. Not one side effect, amazingly.

DH had his a few years ago, in his 50s when he realised he'd not had any of those diseases as a child. No problems whatever.

I had it as an adult as I didn't get it as a child and was travelling to parts of the world where measles is still prevalent.

No side effects whatsoever (the yellow fever jag was a completely different kettle of fish, though...).

Thanks all. I have to have it before starting IVF.

I had it as a child but apparently it has worn off now.

I had it to train in a health care profession. I had measles mumps and German measles as a child but I still needed the vaccination. No side effects.

I somehow didn’t have it as a child so had it a few years back, no side effects.

JuneOsborne · 11/05/2022 14:07

I had it as an adult. Usual, heavy, sore arm for a day afterwards.

Cornettoninja · 11/05/2022 14:09

I had it at 35 when pre-employment NHS checks showed I had no antibodies for mumps - I still don’t! Apparently, now I’ve looked into it, the mumps vaccine is a bit pants.

I also managed to get pregnant 2 months after which they advise against - pregnancy and baby (now 6) absolutely fine.

Cornettoninja · 11/05/2022 14:09

Oh and it was fine, maybe some tiredness but nothing stands out in my memory about side effects.

Does anyone know if the mastoid bone can become sore/inflamed following the MMR vaccination?

Updating this thread if anyone googles it in the future.

a few days ago I thought one of my mastoid bones was inflamed.

turns out.. it was my entire lymph node system! I have about ten or twelve all very inflamed around my neck and back of head. Very sore and uncomfortable when lying down. They are still here now.

and now.. (well since two days ago) I have got a full on measles rash, from waist up. It’s on my face, neck, back, arms and front.

poor me!
